Chandler Riggs Talks Growing Up on the Set of ‘The Walking Dead’ – Wetpaint

Robert Kirkman wrote in the first The Walking Dead comic that the story was meant to explore how children would be affected while growing up in a zombie apocalypse.

Hopefully, well never know how a situation like that would really play out.

But thanks to a recent interview with Chandler Riggs we know what its like to grow up pretending to be in a zombie apocalypse.

Though 18 now, Chandler started his TWD run at just 10 years old.

Any parent would be left wondering how AMC protected his young mind from the blood and violence of the show.

Turns out they didnt.

I mean, I love zombies and I love playing zombie killing video games, so I was always super into the zombies, seeing how it all works and seeing the blood everywhere. I love that kind of stuff, he explains to ABC.net.

In fact, Chandler has seen so much in his young age, he feels his experience gives him an advantage over adult cast members as they join the show.

Weve had a few characters this season who I feel so bad for, because theyre coming in in the midst of all the war and the craziness with the explosions and everything.

Yeah, I mean I definitely feel like an OG or a veteran because Ive been on since I was 10.

There are still some aspects of the job that get to Chandler.

Like, that awful eye socket prosthetic, for example.

It is not fun at all [...] having the patch and the prosthetic and all of that is not fun, because you lose depth perception, you lose a lot of your peripheral vision and its so frustrating with the bugs in Georgia.

Its super hot and super humid and lots and lots of bugs its always so difficult trying to hit them. You dont know if theyre close or if theyre far away, your hands are flying around the air and people think youre insane.

But thats just part of the job. What really gets Chandlers goat are all those silly Coral memes.

People still havent let those go.

You know it was kind of funny for the first few months. But five after the meme originated, it kind of gets old especially when people yell CORAL at me, he admits.

In the end, Chandler will always be thankful for his time on the show.

I still love it. I still have so much fun doing it. Especially in the last few seasons, getting to do more and more with my character and interactions with the other characters. Its been really, really awesome.
