Exclusive: The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun went from a "glorified cameo" to a "major figure" in Wizards Tales of Arcadia – Digital…

Arrow boss Marc Guggenheim is back as executive producer of the third and final instalment of the Tales of Arcadia, Wizards: Tales of Arcadia on Netflix.

The animated fantasy series, created by Guillermo del Toro, features the voice talents of names including Once Upon A Time's Colin O'Donoghue, Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Stephanie Beatriz, and Steven Yeun, who appeared in prequel Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia.

Speaking about how Yeun's character Steve Palchuk evolved, Guggenheim told Digital Spy exclusively that the ex-Walking Dead star started off as a one-off character in the series.

"I just love it when characters evolve and grow over the course of a show," Guggenheim said.

"No character in the Tales of Arcadia trilogy embodies that better than Steve does.

"He started out as a one-off, almost. We didn't have a lot of plans for Steve past the first two episodes of Trollhunters.

"But Steve Yeun was so great and so funny that we just kept writing to him without a real plan in mind. It was great to just see his character just grow organically," he continued.

"Sometimes you write the character and sometimes the character writes you. This was definitely a case of us following the lead of Steve Yeun's performance, and I love the fact he's grown from a glorified cameo in the first episode of Trollhunters to a series regular, a major figure in our universe."

As Yeun's role has increased, the character has also evolved.

"Steve's gone from being an absolute jerk and bully to being a really sweet, sensitive guy," Guggenheim explained.

"His relationship with Eli is really fun and fantastic, but at the same time, he still retains his innate Steve-isms. He's evolved, but he's still a bit of a jerk. I just love that."

Yeun left The Walking Dead in 2016, but the show's chief content officer Scott M Gimple recently said Glenn Rhee was the character he most like to create a spin-off series about, focusing on his life pre-apocalypse.

Wizards: Tales of Arcadia is available to watch on Netflix.
