Fear The Walking Dead 613 Recap: J. D. – The Series Regulars

We finally got a June-centric episode! She met an unexpected ally in her effort to discover more about the cult threatening everybody. She finally said goodbye to John. Dwight struggled with Sherrys newest decision to leave and head home to Virginia with the motive to kill the person she really blames for her trauma.

Lets recap!

Warning: Its about to get spoiler-y.

We finally catch up with June, the last time we saw her was when she checked up on Daniel, and even then, she was still dazed after losing John. She comes to visit Grace to check on her. She reassures Morgan that everything they did was right, but the distraught Morgan doesnt believe it. In part, he blames June because if she hadnt gone off half-cocked and left The Lake, things mightve been different. June walks away still holding so much regret that she didnt leave Lawton with John when she had the chance.

She continues her search for the ones out to hurt all of the communities and comes across Dwight. More so, it is a surprise that Sherry decides to tag along, though without saying why. We accept these baby steps in hopes that it brings her and Dwight back together. A sniper up in the hills starts shooting at them, however, and while Dwight and Sherry cover June, June follows the shooter. She comes across an RV lived in by an older man who wonders if she is a part of the culty group.

This new stranger demands that June take him to the orchard where there is a lead on the culty group. When the stranger gets on Junes side, she doesnt hesitate to pull Johns gun on him. He is more stunned than scared and introduces himself as JD, Johns father. Unfortunately, some time along the way, June loses her jacket, the one with Johns letter.

JD doesnt show much remorse about the loss of his son. June also discovers that the leader of the cult, Teddy, is also the man that John had put away. And, hed been preaching the same end of the world crap back then too. It is all coming together with this plot twist. The reason JD left his son so long ago, how he knew about the cult, and all that history came back to haunt him and so many others.

When JD and June stop by the convenience store for a pit stop and to fix up his hand, he winds up getting nostalgic and then locks her up in a back room, professing that he is protecting the last of his family. He doesnt want his sons wife in the middle of this. June on the other hand, calls him out, saying this a cop-out. Shes not wrong either.

JD makes it to the cabin and comes across Hill, a former ranger for Ginny. JD doesnt waste time trying to toss him out, but amid the fight, Hill shoots him. The heartbreaking moment comes when JD falls upon Johns grave, bleeding out. Luckily, June, Sherry, and Dwight show up in time to dispose of Hill.

June manages to save JD. He makes it outside to see Dwight give June her jacket back and relief floods June as she finds the letter. He admits his wrongdoings about having left his wife and John. June and JD finally mourn John as June reads Johns last letter out loud. Guys, we cried so hard over this part. A beautiful, heartbreaking scene.

Sherry finally reveals why she came along on the journey and was determined to find June. After all of this is over, she is heading back to Virginia to finish off the one responsible for her trauma. Negan.

Dwight is willing to help her get on her way even though that means saying goodbye again, but he still isnt giving up on them. He also isnt going to let her run his horse into the ground as she did hers. They get closer to the cabin and find Johns old truck on the bridge, the place Dakota had stabbed him. Dwight asks her again if killing Negan is truly what she wants and what her plan would be afterward. She eventually admits she isnt ready for goodbye and is afraid she wont be able to find herself and who she once was. Dwight offers for them to truly start over and she accepts.

When the group finally heads back to The Lake, Morgan is surprised to meet JD. But, this definitely gives the community a leg up against Teddy and his cult. Things are definitely winding up for a big ending and were excited.
