Fear The Walking Dead May Have Ended Its Civic Republic Story – Screen Rant

Fear the Walking Dead season 6, episode 3 may have just ended its Civil Republic Military story that it gave Althea (Maggie Grace) in season 5.

Fear the Walking Dead may have just wrapped up its Civic Republic story. The Civic Republic is a mysterious, wide-reaching organization that become a central part of the Walking Dead universe over the past few years. It was the Civic Republic who were responsible for the disappearance of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in The Walking Dead season 9, and theyre now serving as the backbone for the latest spinoff series, Walking Dead: World Beyond.

A season 5 episode of Fear the Walking Dead delivered a huge shock to viewers by including a black helicopter identical to the one that abducted Rick. It was through Fear the Walking Dead that fans were able to learn more about Ricks captors and what their purpose is. During an episode centered on Althea (Maggie Grace), one of their members - Isabelle (Sydney Lemmon) received a considerable amount of focus. After being forced together, the two shared a brief romance that ended with them parting ways. Isabelle never returned in season 5, but Althea continued to pine over her. Fear the Walking Dead revisited the Isabelle story in season 6, episode 3, Alaska when it was revealed that Al has been listening to Isabelles communications with the Civic Republic over the radio.

Over the course of the episode, Althea and Dwight (Austin Amelio) worked to reach the top of a building infested with Bubonic plague-infected rats, in the hopes of giving Al a chance to reunite with Isabelle. Apparently, this rooftop was a drop site for the Civic Republic. After finally arriving at her destination, Al had second thoughts and chose to help Dwight over seeing Isabelle again. According to Al, she now regards him as a brother and is unwilling to lose him. The show didnt end up offering the Althea-Isabelle reunion that many have been hoping for - other than a conversation over the radio - but that doesnt mean theyre saving it for later, either. This could very well be the end of Fear the Walking Deads Civil Republic story.

Altheas separation from Isabelle created a lot of inner conflict for her and helped define her season 5 story arc. Her getting a chance to see Isabelle had been teased, and it was believed that this was something that Fear the Walking Dead could build to eventually, but the series ended up toying with this possibility much sooner than expected. Of course, Fear the Walking Dead could still choose to do more with Isabelle in future episodes, but at this point it doesnt seem likely or necessary. It feels like the point of Als decision on the roof was to wrap up this loose end from season 5 and make room for something new in season 6.
