Fear the Walking Dead showrunners talk season 8 expectations – Undead Walking

Fear the Walking Dead is a spinoff series of The Walking Dead that will soon begin filming its eighth season in Georgia. This series assigned new showrunners starting in season 4.Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss took over as leads during the season of Madison Clarks (Kim Dickens) supposed death, and in the most recent season, they brought her back into the story, alive and well.

During an interview with AMC.com, the showrunners shared some great information on what to expect in the upcoming season and some important notes regarding season 7 that recently aired its season finale.

As far as season 8 goes, dramatic changes will stem from filming being relocated to Savannah, Georgia. Gone will be the haze of the fallout from the nuclear blast, and showrunners have said this season will be the most significant reinvention the series has seen. It will see a massive focus on PADRE and be centered around water.

The seriess seventh season saw survivors trying to live in a nuclear wasteland. The primary fight was for the Tower, the only safe place in the immediate area, of which Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) had control. He eventually pushed things too far, and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) declared war and vowed to take the Tower away from him.

In the end, she relented and saved her long-time friend. Showrunners said this was vital to wrap up her storyline as season 7 saw Alicias final episode. Her saving Strand was a parallel story to the bird Amina she saved as a child. They felt it was important to show that although Alicia has been through severe trauma since the outbreak, she hasnt let it alter her core beliefs and who she really is.

The upcoming season will see more of the pairing of Morgan (Lennie James) and Madison. Her return to the series marked the first meeting of these characters as Morgan crossed over from The Walking Dead during Madisons exit. Although their initial meeting was tense, to say the least, it appears they will become allies in the quest to recover Mo from PADRE.

Madisons learning of her childrens fates has made her reconsider the job she has been doing for PADRE. The time she has been away from her children is something she can never get back, and she will never see Nick (Frank Dillane) again and may never see Alicia either. She can help Morgan reunite with his daughter and help take down this kidnapping ring.

The showrunners have also stated that much more will be revealed about PADRE, their philosophies, why they take the children, and what happens to them after. Who is behind PADRE? The US Government? The CRM? or another group altogether?

Most agree that season 7 left much to be desired; lets hope that with a new location, new characters, and Madisons return, season 8 can be bigger and better.
