The Walking Deadaired its tenth season in 2020, and now filming has begun on the eleventh and final season of the show.To celebrate the big moment, the show posted an image from the Atlanta set featuring a picture of the clapperboard for the first take of the final season:
The picture of the clapperboard is intriguing, because the last time fans saw the windmill in Alexandria, is wasnt burned up. It featured heavily in Episode 1015, when Aaron and Alton were spying on Beta and the Whisperers massive walker herd. Seeing it in this state means that something happened between the season 10 finale and the start of season 11. Whether that story plays out in the bonus episodes remains to be seen.
The Walking Dead will bow out in 2022 after an extended season 11 featuring 24 episodes instead of the usual 16, and there will also be six additional bonus episodes of season 10, meaning there are 30 more new episodes before its all over.
Between COVID-19 delays and the desire to branch out into new stories, the news of The Walking Deads impending end was jarring, but there is a silver lining. AMC isnt letting go of the property just yet and they have plans for an extended universe similar to what CBS is doing with Star Trek.There are already two spin-offs of the series on the air:Fear the Walking Deadis heading into the second half of its sixth and is already renewed for a seventh, whileThe Walking Dead: World Beyondpremieres its second and final season in 2021.
And there are more new shows coming, includinga Carol-and-Daryl spin-off and a show that will focus on untold stories from the shows past, present and future, called Tales of the Walking Dead. And then there are the Rick Grimes movies, which should begin filming as soon as the pandemic allows Andrew Lincoln to leave the UK, so there is still plenty more TWD for fans to enjoy.
