The Walking Dead season 11 part 3 will bring the iconic show to a close, but will Andrew Lincoln return as Rick Grimes?

Its going to be a sad day for fans ofThe Walking Dead when the iconic AMC TV series concludes later this year. The show has been a regular part of the cable networks schedule, television, and pop-culture for over a decade and it will no doubt be the end of an era when it closes out its incredible run.

The shows eleventh season is currently ongoing, and when we say ongoing, we really meanongoing. It premiered last August, airing eight weekly episodes before taking a hiatus that October. It then returned in February before airing eight episodes and taking another break in April.The Walking Dead season 11 part 3 airs later this year, with just eight more episodes of the show left to go before it bows out.

But will the shows original frontman be back for TWDs farewell? Andrew Lincoln portrayed Rick Grimes on the show for the vast majority of its run, so it would only be right to see him again in the finale. But will it happen?

We last saw Rick Grimes inThe Walking Deads ninth season. A powerful departure for the character, no doubt, but the one thing that set it apart from the exits of so many previous major characters is that Rick did not die. In fact, his exit was designed in a way that Andrew Lincoln could return in the future.

While there have been potential teases to Ricks return in spin-off seriesThe Walking Dead: World Beyond and the main show itself, fans are curious to know if the former sheriff of Alexandria will make his presence felt inThe Walking Dead season 11 part 3 when it premieres on AMC in the fall.

When asked about the possibility of a potential return to the series last year, Lincoln told SFX Magazine that he would never say never to that, because he considers everybody thats still doing the TV show as dear friends.

It goes without saying that it would be fitting to see the shows frontman one more time before its series finale concludes.

Regardless of whether he does appear in the final season, we do know that we havent seen the last of Rick Grimes.

When Andrew Lincoln departedThe Walking Dead, it was revealed that we would seeRick Grimes again, as a series of movies centered his character on would explore his future.

It goes without saying that fans were incredibly excited to know that there was both a future for Rick and the TWD Universe (which is also expanding with more TV shows) but its been some time since the movies were announced, and there have been little updates about them since. So, are they still happening?

Well, according to Lincoln in the same interview with SFX Magazine last year, things are moving forward. Whats more exciting is that he confirmed that he is indeed doing more than one film and has signed on as a producer for the projects. As for why its taken so long to come to fruition, thats down to both the pandemic and the desire to get the first one right. Lincoln commented:

theres more than one. We need to get the first one absolutely right and thats why its taken longer than we anticipated and obviously with the pandemic. I cant wait. Im really excited about broadening the scale and scope of the story and finding out where Rick is.

Fans are hoping for updates about this project and the entire TWD Universe from San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Heres hoping that happens!
