The Walking Deadis a monumental series as it is one of the most watched shows in cable TV history. Its impressive run of 11 seasons over the course of 12 years is quite the feat for a zombie series. If you scour the internet, you can search out numerous articles telling you why this series is garbage; for a refreshing change of pace, lets discuss why this series is worth watching.

Here is a little history about the series. The pilot episode aired on AMC on Halloween night, 2010, and sets the tone for the first several seasons. The original showrunner Frank Darabont was a great choice to start the series as his writing style is unsurpassed and made for a sound foundation to build from.

The series got its source material from the comic story created by Robert Kirkman, who serves as an executive producer and writer of the series. Although it is set in a zombie apocalypse, the stories dive deeper into the lives of the characters than one would think.

One interesting fact about The Walking Dead, they never refer to the undead as zombies, instead, they use several different names for the undead including lame brains, rotters, geeks, empties, biters, etc. The most common being walkers.

The Stories talk to anyone who has faithfully watched the show, and they will tell you the reason they continue to watch is the stories of the characters. Sure, the apocalyptic setting draws people in, but the character stories are captivating and keep viewers coming back for more.

The Apocalpyse there is something about an end-of-the-world setting for a film or show. People are very interested in how things could be in an apocalypse setting and how others would try to survive. During certain seasons of this series, the prison, for instance, viewers got a good look at how life could be during a real end times situation where a group of people pulls together in an unlikely location to build a new place to survive.

The Comics who doesnt love a great mash-up? The Walking Dead has often strayed from the source material, but many characters look like they walked from comic page to screen without skipping a beat. And fans of the comic have loved the storylines that stayed true to the comic.

The SFX The Walking Dead fans arelucky to have someone like Greg Nictoero in charge of the SFX. Who better to create the walkers than someone who learned from George A. Romero and Tom Savini? Nicotero and his group from KNB EFX Group have done a fantastic job bringing the undead to life.

The Characters the main reason people enjoy this series is the well-written characters portrayed by excellent actors. This series has been fortunate to boast some exceptionally talented actors throughout the 11 seasons.

Like every series, The Walking Dead isnt without its flaws, but overall it is a great series full of amazing stories with just enough blood and gore to keep it in the zombie genre.
