Jon Bernthal returning to The Walking Dead | EW.com

Back from the deadkinda. Jon Bernthals Shane will be making a return to The Walking Dead in season 9, EW has confirmed, appearing in one episode for the upcoming season.

The news of Bernthals return follows reports that he was seen hovering around the set after being captured in an Instagram photo at Nic & Normans restaurant (owned by TWD star Norman Reedus and exec producer Greg Nicotero) in Senoia, Georgia.

AMC declined to comment. TV Line first reported the news.

Shane was originally killed by Rick in season 2 of the zombie drama. He then came back to life as a walker before being shot down by Carl. That means that the character would be now appearing in either a flashback or a vision/hallucination of some sort. And it would not be the first time. A bearded Bernthal actually returned for a brief cameo in season 3 courtesy of a Rick Grimes vision at Woodbury, but has not been seen since.

Bernthals latest appearance may be coinciding with the departure of original star (and close Bernthal friend) Andrew Lincoln, who will be leaving the show this season. Lauren Cohan also appears to be out the door after her ABC show Whiskey Cavalier got picked up for midseason, although like Lincoln, she too will be returning for a handful of episodes in season 9.

But at least we will have a nice old-school reunion before they all go. Now someone go track down T-Dog!
