Rick Grimes might (literally) lose his right hand in solo The Walking Dead movies – Metro.co.uk

Lets hope its not his good gun hand? (Picture: AMC)

The new trilogy of The Walking Dead movies starring Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes could achieve what their TV counterpart never could quite literally severing Grimes from one of his hands.

Lincoln departed his role as chief apocalypse survivor Grimes in the zombie dramas ninth season, but he will be returning to the Walking Dead universe, this time on the big screen.

In the source comics, the former Sherriff lost his right hand when it was chopped off by the Governer (played in the TV series by David Morrissey), although due to budgetary constraints, this event was never adapted in the TV show.

Creator Robert Kirkman has spoken before about the possibility of a do-over, and three action movies with a bigger budget than a TV show certainly seems like the right time to attempt this, right guys?

Its entirely possible that weve closed the book on that issue right now but it could crop up in the future, he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2014.

It is the bane of my existence in the comics because Im constantly having to rewrite scenes that you cant do with one hand.

Im not going to rule it out; it could happen at some point but it certainly hasnt happened yet.

Hopefully, the movies will see the grizzled survivor finally find his happy ending, as he was brutally killed off in Kirkmans original comics first being shot in bed by Sebastian Milton, then again by his son Carl when he arose as a Walker.

Kirkman has since defended the decision to kill off his leading man, telling Comicbook.com: Rick Grimes fixed the world to the point where he was so safe that he could be killed by the weakest character in the book.

Its a statement on how good of a job he did. At no point in the history of the comic could he have been killed that way.

It wasnt until the very end that he was able to relax.

The new cinematic spin-offs could also see Morriseys arch-villain make a startling return, as hes keen to take part in an origin story.

Samantha Morton, who stars as Big Bad Alpha in the TV series, has also recently admitted that she wishes she got to share scenes with Lincoln, and honestly same.

The Walking Dead season 10 will return to AMC and Fox UK after a short break in 2020.
