Syfy – Marvel, Star Wars, The Walking Dead win big at 2017 Saturn … – SYFY WIRE (blog)

The 2017 Saturn Awards were held last night in Burbank, California, hosted by Sean Gunn. This is the awards show for fandom, given by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films. The 43rd annual Saturn Awards were a showcase for all things geeky, butStar Wars,The Walking Deadand Marvel really won the day.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had 11 nominations, the most overall, and won in three: Best Science Fiction Film, Best Director for Gareth Edwards, and Best Special Effects for John Knoll, Hal Hickel, Mohen Leo, Neil Corbould and the ILM team.That wasn't it forStar Wars, though, asStar Wars Rebels took home Best Animation.

The Walking Dead led TV with seven nominations and took home Best Horror TV (beating out sister seriesFear the Walking Dead). Andrew Lincoln won for Best TV Actor and Jeffrey Dean Morgan for Best Guest Performance on TV as Negan.

Marvel had a lot of success, too, winning Best Comic-to-Film withDoctor Strange, which also won Best Supporting Actress for Tilda Swinton -- a big win after her casting as the Ancient One brought so much controversy. Tom Holland won Best Performance by a Younger Actor as Spider-Man inCaptain America: Civil War, andLuke Cage brought TV gold home for Best New Media TV Series (tied with darlingStranger Things). Marvel character -- but Fox movie property -- Deadpool got a win, too, as Ryan Reynolds won Best Actor for film. The full list of winners follows, and congrats to all!
