The Walking Dead: 5 Most Gut-Wrenching Deaths In The Series (& 5 That Were Actually Pretty Silly) – Screen Rant

The Walking Dead has killed many characters in it's many years, but which deaths were remembered for being heartbreaking, and which were absurd?

The Walking Dead is one of the greatest horror shows in television history, and after ten seasons on air, it comes as no surprise that they are veritable experts at killing people on screen. The show is notorious for how quickly and often it kills off characters, and as the show has progressed those deaths have gotten more creative.

Sometimes that creativity really benefits a character's demise, but in other instances it's a hindrance instead of help. With that in mind, here are the most gut wrenching The Walking Dead deaths, along with the silliest and most absurd.

One of the earliest gut-punch deaths in The Walking Dead was Sophia Peletier. Despite not having much character development, Sophia's disappearance became a main storyline for the season, and the revelation that she had been dead the entire time, only a few hundred yards away from her mother and the rest of the group, was heartbreaking.

In retrospect it's even tougher to watch since Carol is now a certified badass and one of the most important characters in the entire series.

Rick Grimes nearly met his match when he met Negan, so clearly someone like Spencer Monroe had no chance. Spencer makes a sneaky attempt to usurp Rick's position as leader of the group, and while Negan plays along for a little while, ultimately he winds up killing Spencer.

He literally disembowels him while they're playing a game of pool, making the quip that he thought Spencer "had no guts". It was a gruesome but absurd moment.

Merle Dixon may be the most irritating character in TWD history, which is really saying a lot. However, that doesn't make his death any less heartbreaking. After a lifetime of being dragged down by his big brother, Daryl has really come into his own with the group.

Merle is obviously jealous that he doesn't have his baby bro's attention all the time, but ultimately realizes that Daryl is doing well. Somehow, Merle finds the decency in himself and lets Michonne go, and it's Daryl that finds the walker version of Merle and puts him down for good.
