The Walking Dead boss claims show will continue for as long as fans want it despite end of comics – The Irish Sun

THE Walking Dead could much like its infamous zombies never die.

The AMC drama is currently in its tenth season and will return next month to track the clash of Alphas Whisperers with the allied communities.

However, many were left concerned about the fate of the show when Robert Kirkman, who wrote the comics upon which the series is based, decided to bring them to an end.

TV bosses admitted at the time they were given minimal notice about the decision by Kirkman, further adding fuel to fans panic.

Then theres the influx of spin-off shows and the upcoming Rick Grimes movie trilogy, which threatened to eclipse the action of The Walking Dead.

Well, for those of you hoping for another decade of undead carnage we have some good news, courtesy of show boss Scott M Gimple.

Gimple has stressed that he sees The Walking Dead continuing indefinitely, provided there is sufficient demand from fans.

This will inevitably mean cooking up storylines away from those laid out in graphic novels once the show catches up.

"We're always in contact with AMC to ensure we're on the same page about moving forward. There isn't a timetable. We're continuing on, he told Entertainment Weekly.

"People are digging the show, and there's a lot more story to tell. I've said it, [showrunner] Angela [Kang's] said it too, that last issue of the comic reads like a pilot, he went on.

"There's a ton more story to tell. As long as the audience wants it, we would love to tell it. So far, we're very much on the same page."

As for how any eventual end might look, Gimple remained cryptic, but stressed that it would be a collaborative process.

"I've had visions and I think you always have to have a small variety of ways it could go because there are so many different things that can happen outside the narrative production-wise," he continued.

"As far as the ending of the show though, whenever it might be, I would be talking about it with Angela and really try to fulfil the whole of it.

"I think with Andy [Lincoln's] departure, we tried to sort of fulfil the whole of Rick's story on the show, and we had planned that for a good while. It'll be the same whenever, if ever, the show ends. Maybe we simply don't have to deal with it because the show goes on and on and on."

The comments come after Gimple teased the crossovers between new series World Beyond and the upcoming films.

Meanwhile the midseason premieres title and synopsis leaked, confirmed that Alpha will remain on top when the show returns.

The Walking Deadwill air on FOX in the UK on February 24 and be available to stream on NOW TV.
