A The Walking Dead director has opened-up about a scene between Negan and Carl that didn't end up happening.

Back in season seven episode 'Sing Me a Song', Carl is shown Negan's 'wives' and encouraged by the villain to ogle as much as he wants.

However, there were issues over depicting sexual relationships under duress and showing sexuality with a minor, and director Rosemary Rodriguez has explained that she had a different vision for it initially.

Revealing that she was "aware" of the controversy and that she wanted to "try and ride that line", the director said that she had a disagreement with producers over what the women would wear in the scene.

"Part of the conversation, for me which I didn't quite win, to be honest with you was what they were going to be wearing," she told Undead Walking.

In the comics version, the women are clad in lingerie rather than more covered up, Rodriguez continuing: "I really wanted a reaction from him (Carl) in seeing women in really sexy like seeing them, their cleavage, really being a little bit more explicit. Particularly for the show, because it's so out there and not what we do.

"Because I like extremes and because I'm not really afraid to dive into whatever it is, even if it's politically incorrect or evil or dark, I just want to go as far as we can."

In the end, producers decided to go with a version where the women wear black dresses, the director adding: "I think Scott [Gimple] and everybody were trying to adhere to the bigger picture, and being aware of the fans and what was going to happen."

The Walking Dead's season 10 finale will air as a special episode later this year on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV. In the US, the show airs on AMC.
