The Walking Dead fans in a frenzy after Carl Grimes actor teases a potential return – The Sun

THE Walking Dead fans have been whipped into a frenzy after the actor who played Carl Grimes teased a potential return.

Chandler Riggs, 20, played Carl from the age of 10 until he was controversially killed off mid-way through season eight in 2017.

Carl's death was a major departure from The Walking Dead comics, but the show has used flashbacks as a way to revisit deceased former characters.

Over the weekend, Carl retweeted an article by ComicBook discussing the show's 'plans to bring some dead characters back', adding a wide-eyed emoji.

While the actor didn't write anything else, fans immediately took the tweet as a hint Carl could be one of the characters making a surprise comeback.

One replied under the post on Twitter: "Don't mess with my emotions!!!!!"

Another added: "How will this work? I still am mad that Carl is dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He never got to find love like he does in the comics!!!!"

A third cried: "CHANDLER RIGGS! I just got attacked..!! DUDE. YOU KNOW SOMETHING."

Meanwhile a fourth tweeted: "delete this immediately im not emotionally stable enough for this."

Last week, The Walking Dead's boss insisted the AMC show could continue for 'as long as fans want'.

The show is currently in its tenth season and will return next month to track the clash of Alphas Whisperers with the allied communities.

However, many were left concerned about the fate of the show when Robert Kirkman, who wrote the comics upon which the series is based, decided to bring them to an end.

But Scott M. Gimple told Entertainment Weekly: ""We're always in contact with AMC to ensure we're on the same page about moving forward. There isn't a timetable. We're continuing on.

"People are digging the show, and there's a lot more story to tell. I've said it, [showrunner] Angela [Kang's] said it too, that last issue of the comic reads like a pilot.

"There's a ton more story to tell. As long as the audience wants it, we would love to tell it. So far, we're very much on the same page."
