The Walking Dead hits back at fans after they highlight Negan and Carl plot hole – The Sun

THE Walking Dead has hit back at fans after they highlighted a Negan and Carl 'plot hole'.

The AMC post-apocalyptic drama's latest episode saw Negan - played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan - befriend a young boy who ended up being killed by a teenager called Brandon, who idolises him and his past as leader of the Saviours.

At one point, Brandon referred to rumours Negan murdered Rick Grimes' son Carl, saying: "I heard you made [Rick] cut his own kid's hand off, then you killed them.

"Carl Grimes, I heard you shot him."

But Negan angrily replied: "I never did that...I would never kill a kid."

However hardcore fans were quick to point out on fan sites that Negan was on the verge of killing Carl in series seven with his trusty weapon, Lucille.

The show's official Twitter account was quick to respond, sharing a twin up of the two scenes and captioning it simply: "We call that growth."

Indeed, Jeffrey will relish the fact his character has grown, considering his recent comments claiming Negan was "one-dimensional" at the beginning of his storylines.

Negan first made his debut in the season six finale, toting his infamous baseball bat Lucille.

The season seven premiere that followed was perhaps the most brutal in the shows history, as Negan battered Abraham and Glenn to death.

In the series that followed, Negans efforts to strike fear into the allied communities served as proof there was nothing he wouldnt sink too.

However, Jeffrey admitted that playing such a thoroughly despicable bad guy left him feeling unfulfilled as an actor.

He claimed Negan lacked depth and complexity, resulting in a stagnant performance across the seventh and eighth series.

I thought the first couple of years that we knew Negan were very one-dimensional, he told crowds at Walker Stalker Con Atlanta.

To me, when Negan came out of the RV for the first time, we didnt learn anything about him for two years, three years, and that was hard, he continued.

I felt like everything that I said coming out of that RV is sort of what I said for the next two years, and never shifted.

However, he said that Negans bond with Rick's daughter Judith had given him the opportunity to explore the more nurturing, emotional aspects of his character.

The Walking Dead continues on Sunday in the US on AMC and airs on Fox and Now TV on Monday's at 9pm in the UK.
