The Walking Dead season 10: Is Dante a Whisperer in the comics? – Express

Dante (played by Juan Javier Cardenas) made his debut inThe Walking Dead universe in the very first episode of season 10. Portrayed as a helping hand to Siddiq (Avi Nash) in Alexandrias infirmary, the pair seemed to be hitting it off that was until he was unveiled as a secret member of the Whisperers in episode seven, Open Your Eyes. But just how true to the comics is the AMC adaptation of Dante?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from The Walking Dead season 10.

Dante doesnt actually appear in The Walking Dead comics until issue number 131.

Hes introduced as a rather rude, quick-witted and sarcastic survivor within the community at Hilltop.

Despite his abrasive nature on the surface, Dante is actually a resourceful and intelligent individual.

He also ends up developing a relationship with Hilltop leader Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in the comics.

One thing he doesnt do in the comic-books, however, is become one of the Whisperers.

He instead becomes a pivotal part of leading the offence against Alpha (Samantha Morton) while at Hilltop.

However, he does spend a brief moment of time with Alpha in her camp.

This because he is captured by one of Alphas Whisperers in the comic-books before being traded back to Hilltop.

In the comics, Alpha arrives at Hilltops gates with Dante and a fellow survivor, Ken.

She asks to trade the two for her daughter Lydia (Cassady McClincy).

Maggie agrees and Dante is let go by the Whisperers and rejoins the community.

While he isnt swayed to join Alpha in the comics, he does warn against going to war with them a warning which ultimately goes unheeded.

Dantes character goes on an entirely different arc in the AMC horror series.

In Open Your Eyes, he ends up poisoning a captured Whisperer to stop him from heading back to the camp.

He does so, presumably, when he hears Carols (Melissa McBride) plan to show the captive Lydia.

Alpha had previously told the Whisperers she had sacrificed her own daughter in order to gain their trust.

Dante cant have the word of Lydias survival spreading back to the Whisperers.

Therefore, he takes what he feels is a necessary action to prevent it from doing so.

Hes also shown trying to console a PTSD-stricken Siddiq, which backfires when the doctor realises it was Dante who held his eyes open during the massacre at the Whisperer border.

Dante strangles Siddiq and Alexandria is left in mourning at the loss of one of its most important members.

However, in the midseason finale, Dante finally got his comeuppance at the hands of Gabriel (Seth Gilliam).

While locked in the cell in Alexandria, Gabriel entered to discuss with Dante why he did what he did.

The conversation soon turned to how Dante's actions have jeopardised his own relationship with Rosita (Christian Serratos).

In a rare fit of rage, Gabriel stabbed Dante multiple times, meaning he won't be returning in episode nine or later in season 10B

The Walking Dead season 10 returns to AMC and FoxUK in 2020.
