We all knew it was coming, but no one would have predicted that Rick Grimes exit from The Walking Dead was just around the corner.

The season nine episode synopsis have been revealed and it appears that episode five, titled What Comes After, will mark the sheriffs penultimate instalment as AMC have chosen to keep all details of the sixth chapter a secret.

According to Independent.co.uk, the synopsis for episode five reads: Rick is forced to face the past as he struggles to maintain the safety of the communities and protect the future he and Carl envisioned.

While the synopsis for episode seven follows: Carol seeks out an old friend living alone in a wilderness teeming with walkers; survivors make the perilous trek to a new home.

Naturally, details of Ricks exit have been kept well under wraps as fans eagerly wait to see if hell make it out of the series dead or alive.

And new showrunner Angela Kang has promised fans that there will be plenty of amazing performances to come from the rest of the ensemble cast.

She told IGN: This is new territory for us, obviously there have been characters that weve said goodbye to over the years, but hes the person who brought us into the show.

But we have such a strong ensemble and theres such beautiful scenes between a lot of these core characters that weve been tracking for many years.

Rick has such interesting and deep relationships with these characters and you really feel the way that he has touched these different peoples lives.

The Walking Dead continues this Sunday in the US on AMC and follows a day later on FOX UK.
