‘The Walking Dead’ Season 9 Events Changing The Tone

The Walking Dead Season 9 has been able to win over the critics, but the numbers are nowhere near the all-time highs the show has seen in the past. While the exits of some of the biggest characters and the recent storylines got many viewers to switch over to other shows, AMC is hopeful about the future of the TV series.

Season 9 was supposed to be a soft reboot. There is a new showrunner, and a time jump in the plot has helped keep things interesting. The villainous faction known as the Whisperers may have brought back the fear factor that was lost in the past few seasons, but will it be enough?

According to a report by We Got This Covered, AMC programming president David Madden pointed out in a recent interview that the ratings of all the cable network shows have been falling lately, and The Walking Dead is no exception. Despite the fall, the network is witnessing some big numbers. So Madden is hopeful about the future. He said that AMC is hoping for a long future with the franchise.

Madden explained that they are trying different things in Season 9. The creative changes and the new situations that the heroes find themselves in arehelping to propel the TV series into a very different tone, according to Madden.

Despite the fall in ratings, The Walking Dead continues to be one of the most watched shows. A list of the 100 most watched shows of 2017-18 compiled by Indie Wireranks the zombie series pretty high in the U.S. market. The series found itself in the fourth position among all the other shows, beating The Good Doctor and The Big Bang Theory, among others.

The ratings of The Walking Dead series have been falling steadily in the past few years. The current rating of the show is 5.3. It was 8.0 last year, and 9.6 the year before. It remains to be seen if the next half of Season 9 will be able to improve the numbers this year.

One positive sign about the show is that it is the most pirated TV series of 2018, Screen Rant reported. For the past six years, Game of Thrones was the most pirated series. The other shows on the list are The Flash at second place, The Big Bang Theory in third place and Vikings in fourth.

The Walking Dead Season 9 returns on Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
