The Walking Dead: Simon Was A Better Villain Than Negan – Screen Rant

Heres why Negans underling Simon was the better villain of the pair on The Walking Dead. Of all the murderous, megalomaniac villains that have thrown their weight around on The Walking Dead, Negan is often hailed as the greatest. Within moments of his introduction, Negan had bludgeoned two fan favorites to death (R.I.P. Glenn and Abraham) and was shown to be just as ruthless towards his own people with his tendency to brand them with an iron if they stepped out of line.

Of course, that was forever ago in The Walking Dead timeline and these days Negan spends his time tending to his tomato patch or dispensing fatherly advice to former mortal enemy Rick Grimes kid Judith. But even at his worst, there was a method to Negans madness and brutality. Back in his baseball bat-wielding days, Negan would kill people to make an example of them and keep others in line with the ultimate goal of extorting resources from other communities. Simon, on the other hand, was a different beast entirely.

Simon may have been the Saviors second-in-command on The Walking Dead but, arguably, he was a much better villain than their leader especially in light of Negans seeming redemption. Whereas Negan had rules albeit rules with brutal consequences Simon was unpredictable in his brutality. While Negan saw other communities and their people as resources, Simon was happy to wipe out entire settlements at whim.

Its important to remember how bloodthirsty Simon was during his time on The Walking Dead. Early on it was revealed Simon and some of his Savior underlings killed off a community under their control that was living in a public library and later against Negans strict orders he didnt think twice about ordering his men to gun down the Scavengers at the junkyard. After he thought Negan was dead towards the end of The Walking Deads eighth season, he assumed control of the Saviors and ordered them to kill everybody at Hilltop but luckily wasnt successful.

When Negan turned up alive, he revealed it was Simon who was responsible for the deaths of the Oceanside communitys men and boys something that Negan deemed psychotic shit and the work of a demented, broken goddamn ghoul. And thats coming from a man who named his baseball bat after his dead wife and used it to routinely bash peoples heads in.

Of course, Negan had his fair share of villainous moments on The Walking Dead but hes also been shown as capable of remorse and mercy even during his peak bad guy era. Simon, however, was bloodthirsty and ruthless just for the hell of it and for that reason hes a far better villain than Negan.
