Sonequa was confirmed as the First Officer Michael Burnham in the sci-fi blockbuster last year, which immediately spelled the end of her time in The Walking Dead.

However, the 32-year-old actress has now stressed that her new role came after Sashas fate was sealed.

"I know some people might think that I left Walking Dead to do Star Trek, but it did not happen that way. It was after Walking Dead was already ending that the opportunity for Star Trek came," she told EW.

Sasha boasted one of the most dignified deaths in The Walking Dead, after taking a poisonous pill to avoid becoming one of Negans pawns and, in turn, saved Rick Grimes gang.

Thankfully, Sonequa beamed that her exit couldt have worked out more perfectly".

"I didn't know what I was going to be doing next. And when Star Trek came I thought, 'Oh my goodness! This is... unspeakable! Like, what??' It's going from such a Goliath that reaches so many people in such a profound way, to a legacy," she explained.

"So basically going from legacy to legacy. Because Star Trek has definitely been printed in the hearts of so many people and has been since the '60s, obviously."

Sonequas comments come following reports The Walking Dead season eight might be delayed while The Writers Guild of America threaten strike action over pay.

The WGA has said in a letter that writers have increasingly lost revenue in recent years and could find themselves in contracts with no work.

Should the horror drama return this year, theres been reports that Glenn Rhee could be making a surprise revival after being bludgeoned to death by Negan and his baseball bat Lucille.
