The Walking Dead star Tom Payne’s TV series Prodigal Son axed after two seasons – Digital Spy

The Walking Dead actor Tom Payne's serial killer drama Prodigal Son has been axed by Fox after two seasons.

Co-starring Michael Sheen and Catherine Zeta-Jones, this one could be shopped around to other networks according to Deadline, with HBO Max a possible contender.

Prodigal Son was the lowest-rated drama series for Fox in terms of linear numbers, but it seemed to be doing nicely in the digital sphere.

Lou Diamond Phillips, who played New York City police lieutenant Gil Arroyo, shared his reaction to its cancellation on Twitter.

"Wow. Gutted. Didn't see that one coming," he wrote. "Might be taking a few days away from the platform #Prodigies.

"Just know that you have been the most wonderful, entertaining, brilliant fan base I have ever encountered. Much Love. #GilArroyo #ProdigalSon."

As is the case with most axed titles, Prodigal Son's loyal fanbase aren't going quietly, with one person sharing online: "@prodigalsonfox is one of THE BEST shows on TV and how dare @FOXTV cancel it. I have signed the petition to help save the show. @FOXTV made a HUGE mistake! #SaveProdigalSon."

"Not to worry, we'll somehow find a network that will be willing to pick the show back up and save it so you all can come back stronger than ever. There's gotta be a way to save #ProdigalSon. #SaveProdigalSon," another replied to Phillips.

Will there be a rainbow at the end of this storm for them?
