The Walking Dead will soon(ish) be returning to our screens for season 8, and it sounds like the next instalment is going to be just as gruesome and violent as its predecessor.

(Is it wrong that we're excited for more bloodshed?)

Chatting to ComicBook.com about what fans can expect from the upcoming season, Steven Ogg who plays Simon said that the all-out war teased at the end of season 7 is on its way.

Teasing the opening episode, which is also the show's 100th, Steven said: "I mean, I really didn't think about the one-hundred thing so much as it's, where it says it's all-out war, you definitely get that.

"Oh yeah. It's all-out war," he added. "[It's] a big, big show."

Steven's not the only one hinting at big things for the series's milestone instalment co-executive producer Denise Huth recently revealed that it will include "a tonne of action".

Promising fans that the episode will be "worth the wait", Denise said: "I think it will be really, really satisfying.

"As a fan of the show and I am a fan of the show when I read it, it was like, 'Awww, I can't wait! It's going to be great!'" (No pressure, guys.)

But if an action-packed all-out war sounds depressing to you, then don't worry because Huth reassured fans that the atmosphere of season 8 will be different to the darkness of 7.

"It's like night and day compared to how we had to start last year," she said. "[The actors] all came back so super excited, and it's a big year...

"There's just a sense of excitement, because the characters aren't in that dark, down place."
