Three Core Questions About The Walking Dead Season 10B After Seeing The Premiere – Forbes

The Walking Dead

A few days ago I wrote about my experience watching the first two episodes of The Walking Dead season 10B. I think theyre both pretty good, and I mentioned that they seem like two different horror movies, the first being The Descent, the second being Friday the 13th.

And yet after viewing them, I still have three core questions about how things are going to play out this season. And these three questions are not answered within these first two episodes, so I am not fake-guessing at anything. Youll see what I mean.

1. How does Maggie return?

We know that Lauren Cohan is returning to The Walking Dead by the end of this season. It makes narrative sense, given that the Whisperer War has decimated the Hilltop specifically, and theyve taken out like, three different leaders there already during this war (Jesus, Tara, Enid). I honestly dont even know who is running it at this point, if anyone.

We know that the Hilltop will continue to be a battleground in this war, so it stands to reason that Maggie will return just in time to help try and save it. But when is that? Not in these first two episodes, and there arent even clues about her returning.

I am also wondering where shes been. We know that she was with Georgie, but were still not fully sure which group Georgie might be affiliated with. I want to see if they connect Maggies time away with either the Commonwealth or the three ring helicopter group that we know is an important part of the larger TWD world across Fear and the upcoming World Beyond. It would seem like a missed opportunity, if not.

Finally, Im curious if Maggies return will be permanent, or if this is just a guest arc to finish up her storyline. Her ABC show has been cancelled, and shes now returning to a show where Rick, Carl and Michonne are all gone, so perhaps shes hoping she can be one of the core leads of the series going forward alongside other veterans like Daryl and Carol.

2. How does Michonne leave?

The last time we left Michonne, she was heading off with Virgil to go and try to secure some weapons on the navy base island where he lives. What those weapons are is unclear (Im hoping Michonne rolls in up some sort of Destroyer battleship or something as that would be hilarious), but there are fears that she may not make it back from the island.

Ive talked about this before, but no, I do not believe the show is going to kill off Michonne as a way of having her leave. Danai Gurira is an A-list star at this point and theyre going to want to leave the door open for her to either return later on, or to go co-star in the Rick Grimes movies.

As such, I could see her not making it back if maybe she gets abducted by the helicopter group while on the island. But I have a hunch thats not what happens and instead maybe she finds some intelligence there causing her to believe that Rick is alive, and then she leaves on a quest to go find him, perhaps leaving her kids behind for safety reasons (so they dont have to write them off the show too).

I think we will see A) an island-centric bottle episode starring just Michonne, B) Michonne making it back with the weapons they need and C) Michonne leaving the show in some way that involves not dying (I do not believe the theory she will be given Andreas comic death).

The Walking Dead

3. Will Negan Get *That* Scene?

This one is impossible to talk about without getting into comic spoilers, so avoid this one altogether if you dont want to know about what might happen, if they dont change anything.

I am of course talking about the famous scene where after Negan wins the trust of the Whisperers (we have already seen him getting his skin mask in previews, though that doesnt happen in the first two episodes), he ends up killing Alpha and he brings her head back to Alexandria as a way of proving himself.

Given the fact that Negan is indeed embedded with the Whisperers, and is indeed winning their trust, I have to believe this moment is coming. If it wasnt, then Negan justbetrayed everyone with no redemption arc in sight, and I cant imagine the show doing that to him at this point.

With that said, the show has been setting up Carol seeking revenge on Alpha from the start, so to have Negan kill her would kind of negate that. And yet I still have a theory that it was Carol who originally freed Negan from prison and gave him this infiltration mission in the first place, which would be a good way of the show having its comic cake and eating it too. I am looking forward to this as I am like 95% sure its going to happen.
