The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs has addressed whether he'd return to the series as Carl Grimes.

The son of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) died in season 8, which came as a bit of shock to fans, since the character still had plenty of storylines to explore in the comics.

But with all the spin-offs and potential for prequels and the fact his seemingly invincible dad will be returning from the dead for a trilogy of movies what's to say Carl can't make a comeback of sorts?

Riggs is certainly up for it, but realistically he doesn't see it happening at the moment.

Asked by one fan in an Instagram interview with Tommy DiDario if he'd be interested in reprising the role in some way, he said: "Absolutely. It's been a lot of fun.

"I don't really see it happening in any current medium of the show, but maybe, hopefully, in something else."

Also during the interview, Riggs explained why he felt the fourth season had the most character development for Carl.

"I think season 4 showed the biggest growth from Carl from start to end, and it was the first time that I feel like they let Carl blossom into his own character," he said.

"From the end of season 3 to the start of season 5, all of that in-between, they let Carl grow into his own character, outside of just being 'the kid'."

The Walking Dead's season 10 finale will air as a special episode on Monday, October 5 on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV. In the US, the season 10 finale will air on Sunday, October 4 at 9pm on AMC.
