The Walking Dead spoilers follow for season 10 episode 16.

The Walking Dead's season 10 finale may have seen Beta slain, but it might not be the last time we see the character in the universe.

AMC announced that the show would be ending after 11 seasons, but one of the new spin-offs filling that void will be Tales of the Walking Dead, intended to be an anthology series which will explore new and existing "characters, backstories, or other stand-alone experiences".

This opens up for dead characters to return in stories taking place earlier in the franchise's timeline.

Ryan Hurst, who plays Beta, previously got people talking when he responded to a tweet discussing which characters could feature in Tales, posting: "I've got some ideas."

When asked more directly by Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview, the actor played coy over whether or not he has been in touch with franchise boss Scott Gimple.

"I don't know [if] I can either confirm or deny whether I had dinner with him or not, but that's pretty much all that I'm allowed to say," he said.

"Look, anytime, anything Walking Dead-related, I'd be there in a nanosecond. I have so much fun with that, and Scott is a great friend. Scott and I can nerd out for five hours straight he's a total cinephile, total comic book head. I love Scott."

Meanwhile, Gimple offered another update on the Rick Grimes movie, explaining that everybody working on the spin-off is taking their time to ensure things are done "right". The script is still being worked on.

The Walking Dead will return to AMC in the US and FOX in the UK during 2021. UK viewers can also catch up on the show via NOW TV.
