When will The Walking Dead end? Franchise boss weighs in – Winter is Coming

The Walking Dead is fast approaching its eleventh season, and at the moment, the show is showing no immediate signs of slowing down. In fact, AMCs Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple told The Hollywood Reporterthat hecant quite imagine it coming to a close. Ending it soon isnt the plan.

Season 11 of The Walking Dead is set to introduce an entirely new community called the Commonwealth. Its already being set up in season 10 with Eugenes storyline, which closely follows Robert Kirkmans comics. In fact, the group Eugene, Yumiko, and Ezekiel have set out to meet are the Commonwealth, so that means theyre imminent!

What has fans wondering whether the show is nearing an end is the Commonwealth is part of the final story arc in Robert Kirkmans comics, which came to a close with Issue #193. Will the show end here as well?

As I said, it doesnt sound like thats Gimples plan, but given how the coronavirus pandemic is turning the TV industry on its head right now, anything seems possible. We are living in very weird times, you have caught me in a moment where nothing feels real, so for all I know, its going to become a puppet show next week. Itll be good, though. Well have all the original actors using voices and they can do the puppetry from their own homes.

On a more serious note, Gimple also assured fans that the team is working on creative solutions to make something fun while were all stuck in self-isolation.Were kicking around some ideas to try and have someWalking Deadsupportive fun for people stuck at home, to help keep peoples spirits up. Hopefully well have more news about that soon.

In terms of longevity, The Walking Dead TV franchise has one thing going for it that the comics rarely did: spinoffs. The only major comic spinoffs weve had were Heres Negan and The Alien, both of which were one-shots and didnt do much in terms of setting up a wider universe.

Thats where the TV shows come in. AMC has really tried to push the whole connected universe idea, and it seems to be working. Already weve seen interesting crossovers like Morgan joining the cast ofFear the Walking Dead. Soon, there will be a new spinoff The Walking Dead:World Beyond which revolves around a group of teenagers who grew up in the midst of the zombie apocalypse. And lets not forget the upcomingRick Grimes movies!

These spinoffs can bring new characters and settings into the show in a way that the comics never did. With AMC pumping so much money into these new forays, I cant see them wanting to shut up shop on the main show anytime soon.

But before we continue the story with season 11, were still awaiting the season 10 finale, which is delayed because post-production couldnt be completed in time after crew members were sent home due to the coronavirus. The finale will show us the final face-off between our heroes and the Whisperers. Also, well see Maggie, who finally returns to the series.

Whenwill we seeThe Walking Deadseason 10 finale? The jurys still out on that one.
