When Will The Walking Dead Season 10 Finale Actually Air? – Forbes

The Walking Dead

Its Sunday night, and in a normal year, we would be watching the second episode of The Walking Dead: World Beyond, but obviously thats not happening.

Nor are we going to be able to see the delayed season finale of The Walking Dead season 10, which was supposed to arrive last week as a lead-in to World Beyond, but could not be released due to post-production work remaining unfinished (a lot of VFX goes into TWD that you may not normally notice). Due to work from home orders across America, AMC says they simply cant get the episode until those restrictions are loosened.

So, when is it coming?

AMC has said outright that once things reopen and people can go back to work in a somewhat normal fashion, it will not be long until the episode arrives as its nearly done. The show is filmed and produced in the US, and there has been mounting pressure to reopen businesses and states that have been shut down for a weeks now. Whether thats a good idea or not with virus cases and deaths still mounting is up for debate (spoiler: its not), but we may see governors start to cave from public pressure or from the White House itself, which has taken up the cause.

Most estimates see gradual rollouts opening back up parts of the country in May. Could be early May or mid-May, but that seems to be the current guess. And given that Walking Dead episodes are produced with a relatively quick turnaround, I would expect we could see the season 10 finale by the end of May or early June, depending on how reopening the country goes.

With that said, I am less sure about whats going to happen for the rest of the The Walking Dead shows past that one episode. Filming on Fear season 6 and The Walking Dead season 11 has been pushed back, so its possible those seasons may be delayed. Im not sure if AMC will choose to debut World Beyond when the season 10 premiere arrives like they were going to before, as its not clear just how much work was disrupted on that series, whether they were done filming or whether they have a ton of post-production work still to do. Ive already seen the pilot, but the embargo for that was pushed indefinitely, and I dont know how many episodes will be finished by the time the season 10 finale gets here. But again, once everyone is back at work, maybe they can finish up the rest of that season and get it to air relatively quickly.

AMC has been trying not to let hype die for the season 10 finale after a rather great rest of the season. They have essentially thrown the element of surprise out the window and shown off the fact that Maggie Rhee will be returning for the finale, possibly in a way that ends the Whisperer war for good.

Id say we have a few more weeks to wait, but probably not long past that.
