The second season traces the Suez Crisis, back in 1956 which led to the retirement of Prime Minister Anthony Eden, the retirement of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan in 1963 following the political scandal (Profumo affair), and Prince Edwards birth in 1964. The third season covers the timeline of 1964 to 1977, beginning with the prime ministerial election of Harold Wilson.

Season 3s main cast will be back for season four, including Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Josh OConnor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret. However, few other new cast members will also join them to play some very famous characters from history. The third season concluded with the introduction of Camille shand the fourth season will deal with Margaret thatchers premiership.
