10 Games To Play If You Like Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood – TheGamer

Set in thesame world as the classic tabletop RPGseries World of Darkness, Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood is another attempt to adapt one of the many popular stories of this series while trying to attain the same level of popularity as the Vampire: The Masquerade games. In Werewolf: The Apocalypse, players take control of a Garou (this universe's name for a werewolf)named Cahal, an eco-terrorist determined to fight against the Pentax corporation while trying to gain control over his rage, which caused the death of a member of his tribe.

While there aren't that many games that focus on the player becoming a werewolf, there are several games that are centered around the player being a monster of some kind, with some games even presenting the player an option between several different monsters. Some of these titles are of questionable quality, but, at the end of the day, it's hard to argue against their fun factor.

Developed by Dontnod, the same company behind the amazing Life is Strange titles, Vampyr sees the player take control of Dr. Johnathan Reid, who has recently returned from World War I and awakens in a mass grave after having been turned into a vampire. While the monster in this game is different, the gameplay is very similar especiallyin combat, where the player uses Dr. Reid's various vampiric powers to traverse the world and take down the vampire hunters that threaten his existence. One of the more unique aspects of Vampyr, however, is the ability for the player to feed on NPCs in order to gain experience faster at the expense of the world around them falling apart much faster.

WhileSkyrim'smelee combatis somewhat dated by today's standards, there's no denying that playing as a vampire lord or werewolf is a fun experience. The werewolf form, while somewhat uncontrollable thanks to the lack of ability to turn it off once transformed, allows the player to truly feel like a monster that is roaming the wilds of Skyrim, feasting on the hearts of any unfortunate bandit who crosses their path. Although the werewolf form lacks any sort of ranged capabilitiesthat can make fighting dragons a little easier, it's still a lot of fun to send enemies flying across the room with a single swipe of the player's clawed hands.

Geralt may not be human, but he is far from a monster. That being said, The Witcher 3 encompasses many aspects of world-building and storytelling that are seen in Werewolf: The Apocalypse, though shown through the lens of medieval times rather than a modern take on the genre.

The player may not be able to turn into a monster at will, but with a combination of swords, bombs, potions, and signs, combat is extensive enough to allow Geralt to take care of just about every threat he comes across while still feeling like a superhuman.

Gothic is an action RPG set in a dark fantasy world that has the misfortune of not gaining much of an audience outside of Europe. It also had a long shadow to try and stand out from sincethe first gamewas released relatively close to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. While it is heavily dated by today's standards, there is a lot to love about the Gothic series if you enjoy fantasy RPG games with enormous worlds and open-ended quests.

Also made by the developers of the Gothic series, Piranha Bytes, Risen was created after the developers split froma long-time publisher that resulted in them temporarily losing the rights to continue creating the Gothic games. Risen takes many cues from Gothic, including the deep RPG system, a sprawling open world, and a lengthy main quest that takes the player dozens of hours to complete, all the while trying to not get sidetracked by the many available side quests.

Made by the same developers as the Gothic and Risen series, ELEX takes the similar gameplay seen in Piranha Bytes' previous games but brings it into a modern age, significantly improving the gameplay while updating graphics and world design to reflect a sci-fi setting. What sets ELEX apart from previous Piranha Bytes games is the sense of verticality in the world design, which is exemplified by the addition of a jetpack that allows the player to explore the world with ease and choose their own path for completing the game.

Like the Piranha Bytes titles, GreedFall is a fantasy action RPG with a sprawling open world and deep lore associated with it, though this particular title is made by the creators of The Technomancer and Bound By Flame. While GreedFall does have many similarities to these titles, it is generally considered to be of higher quality in terms of animation and graphics than most others in their niche.

GreedFall places players in a colonial setting, similar to the colonization of Australia or the US. But in this case, the natives are protected by supernatural creatures that make the take over significantly harder in spite of the technological advantage. While there are some issues with clunky combat, the game is still enjoyable enough to warrant looking into if you are a fan of action RPGs.

Although Call of Cthulu has little in common with Werewolf: The Apocalypse's gameplay or setting, it does have a similarly atmospheric world that draws heavily from the stories of H.P. Lovecraft. Rather than focusing on fast-paced action in a world full of monsters, Call of Cthulu has the player investigate various cases around Darkwater Island while RPG mechanics help the player customize their version of the protagonist, Edward Pierce, while simultaneously unlocking new avenues of investigation in the process.

The gameplay of Heart of the Forest is vastly different from Earthblood, though the events of both games take place in the same connected world. Taking the role of Maia, players engage in what can only be described as a digital version of a tabletop RPG, with players progressing through narrative choices that change the course of the player's adventure in certain situations. In order to progress through the story, players need to not only manage their choices, but also a Rage and Willpower meter that will determine the dialogue options available to Maia.

Of all the titles that gamers should play if they enjoyed Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood, the only game that should be at the top of the list is Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Like Werewolf, Vampire is an adaptation of theWorld of Darkness tabletop RPG series. But in this instance, it follows a group of vampires who have seamlessly blended into society, rather than the tribes of werewolves that fight against ecological destruction through acts of terrorism and has some of the best RPG mechanics and storytelling in all of video game history.
