Alyson Hannigan Thought She Bombed Her ‘Buffy’ Audition – RADIO.COM

Its hard to imagine Buffy the Vampire Slayer without best friend and sidekick Willow, but Alyson Hannigan reveals that she almost didnt get the part.

Im a terrible auditioner, I even messed up the 'Buffy' audition, she said in an interview with PEOPLE.

Hannigan explained that she bombed her audition by walking into a door and forgetting her lines.

But it was a chemistry read with Sarah Michelle Geller (Buffy) and Nicholas Brendon (Xander) that convinced the show's creator, Joss Whedon, to cast her as witchy Willow Rosenberg in the teen drama.

"We did a chemistry read with me, Sarah and Nick. And Joss was like 'I want new lines. I want to hear something new.' So he wrote a scene just for this audition," she explained, adding that the new lines consisted of a lot of technical jargon that became expected of her computer-savvy character once the series was picked up.

During the test read, Hannigan revealed that she stumbled through the words and didnt even think she was speaking English at one point.

She looked to both Sarah and Nicholas for help, which Whedon credited as the moment he saw the chemistry between the three actors.

Hannigan also said that right before she got a callback, her grandmother asked her when she was going to give up the childhood acting thing, which convinced her that she had cinched the breakout role.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003.

Hannigan went on to star in American Pie and How I Met Your Mother.
