AMC Networks confirms plans to develop new TV projects about Anne Rice novels The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches.

AMC Networksis developing new TV projects about Anne Rice novel series The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches. The projects could be the second supernatural TV hit after AMC found huge success with The Walking Dead, which is now in its 10th season.

AMC confirmed it acquired the rights to all 18 of Rice's Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches books. Rolin Jones, a producer on cult sports drama Friday Night Lights, will be part of the development of the projects after signing an overall deal with AMC earlier this month. Rice and her son, Christopher Rice, will also be executive producers on all of the TV and movie projects of the series that AMC creates.

The Vampire Chronicles may be the more well-known of the two series, having sold 80 million copies around the world as of 2008. The first book in the series was also turned into a movie, Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, which starred Brad Pitt as a man who was turned into a vampire by Tom Cruise's character in the 18th century. There have been no adaptations of the Lives of the Mayfair Witches books, which follow a family of witches.

It's unclear when AMC will be able to start filming any of these projects, as many productions have been stopped because of COVID-19. However, with fans feeling excited about vampire media such as Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, AMC will be trying to get these shows on screens quickly.
