The iconic cult classic TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer never put it's main focus on romance, it was always friendship that was the heart and soul of the show's emotions. However, when it did go for romance, those romances were usually epic.

So then, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened had they thrown a few other intriguing couples together. These duos never actually made a go of it in any kind of romantic relationship, but here are 10 Buffy couples that would have made a lot of sense, but never got together.
Cordelia and Oz are both kind of unique characters in the world of Buffy, because while they roll with the Scooby Gang they aren't really a part of the core crew.
And opposites do attract, so the still-waters-run-deep style of Oz could be an awesome counterbalance to Cordelia's mouthy, completely honest demeanor. The best relationships allows both partners to grow, and Oz and Cordy could grow a lot from each other's company.
Although Spike's lone obsessions were with Drusilla and then Buffy, he and Faith were kind of a perfect match for their entire character arcs. In the beginning they were both pretty irredeemable and unabashed baddies, but after an unfortunate bout with their consciences, they became pretty solid good guys who were trying to make up for past sins.
Very few people could relate to Spike or Faith as well as they could relate to each other, plus they're just a super badass pairing.
Anya may look like a 20-something woman during her tenure on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the reality is that this former vengeance demon is the oldest main character on the show.
With that said, she still has an enormous amount to learn about how to live in the human world. She needs someone who is mature, complex, and who really knows himself, and who fits that description better than Rupert Giles? They're already business partners, so why not make them life partners as well.
Spike and Angel seem to have a pretty solid love/hate relationship, but they tend to focus much more on the hate aspect. However, we know that they've already hooked up at least once in the past, and there is no way that anyone can experience decades of bonding without having some affection for one another.

Not to mention, they're the only two vampires in existence with souls, so what could make them a better match for each other than that?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a pretty solid mix of characters that are normal humans with normal human ages, and extraordinarily long-lived supernatural beings. Angel and Anya both fall into the latter category.
After Angel was cursed with a soul his existence was pretty much a nonstop self-flagellation festival, and it gets a little tiresome after a while. On the other hand, Anya has done a lot of bad things but really isn't bothered by them. She knows how to live completely in the present, and Angel could learn a thing or two from that.
The quad-squad of Angel, Spike, Darla, and Drusilla were pretty much inseparable for most of their vampire lives. It's hard to imagine any group of vamps with deeper and more complex connections, and while Angel/Darla and Spike/Dru were established couples, they all could have benefited from switching things up a bit.
Angel and Spike seemed to be incredibly competitive with one another, but Darla and Drusilla seemed to have a genuine and caring bond, at least as much as soulless vampires can. So why not ditch the drama of Spike and Angel and just have some Thelma and Louise-style fun?
There are few couples in the Buffyverse that seem more well suited to one another than Andrew and Spike. Spike lives the vampire mystique lifestyle, Andrew fanboys over vampire mystique. Spike wants the world to see him as the ultimate badass, and Andrew sees him as the ultimate badass. Spike wants to be worshiped and adored, Andrew worships and adores him.

It might not be the healthiest romantic relationship in the world, but they'd certainly both get what they want out of one another.
To be honest, Xander Harris as a character doesn't hold up very well with age, and a lot of his behaviors towards Buffy were sketchy as hell. But Buffy wasn't always a peach either, and putting their individual flaws aside, she and Xander have the strongest base for a good relationship that anyone can have.
They both know each other better than they've known nearly anyone else in their lives, and they both genuinely love one another. They're true blue ride or die friends, and there is no reason that they couldn't take that friendship to the next level if they wanted to.
Well, if we can make the argument that friendship, genuine love, and an incredible depth of intimate emotional knowledge of one another is a reason why Buffy and Xander should have been in a relationship, then obviously the same argument can be made for Willow and Buffy too.
However, a relationship between Buffy and Will might make even more sense, because they can relate to each other on a level that no one else can. They both know how it feels to be one of the most powerful beings in the world, and they know all of the responsibilities and pitfalls that can come with it.
Xander and Willow may have had a brief fling behind the backs of their current significant others in season 3 of the series, but it would have been really interesting to see them have a full fledged romantic relationship. Willow was in love with Xander on some level up until the moment she realized she was into women, and Xander seemed to eventually realize what he was missing in overlooking her too.
It's honestly a shame that their only romantic interactions took place illicitly, because if ever there should have been a serious relationship between two of the Scoobs, it was with Willow and Xander.
