Dracula viewers revel in horrific violence as vampire beheads nun and rips face off in gory new drama – The Sun

DRACULA viewers revelled in its very gory and violent scenes tonight as the vampire beheaded a nun and ripped off his victim's face.

The return of Bram Stoker's Transylvanian blood sucker to the BBC small screen was widely praised by fans, who lapped up the dark drama.

Writers Steven Moffatt and Mark Gattiss made sure the fanged villain's presence was felt throughout, and actor Claes Bang certainly charmed viewers.

The fanged villain caused mayhem inside a convent after he tracked his prisoner Jonathan Harker to the religious safe-hold.

Arriving at the nunnery gates disguised as a black wolf, it wasn't long before he shed his animal form and stood nude covered in gunk in front of the horrified sisters.

And when he eventually penetrated the compound, all hell broke loose.

As the convent's Mother Superior tried to give a message of peace and calm, Dracula struck with a sword and lopped her head clean off, uttering: "She was clearing her throat but I think its fine now."

Blood spurted everywhere as the nuns shrieked in terror.

Dracula nonchalantly swung the decapitated head around, threatening the others with the same fate.

Undead Harker, who's month long stay with Dracula played out in a series of flashbacks, increasingly lost control putting his love Mina Murray at risk.

He drove a stake through his heart to spare her any further harm, however, was told by the Count that it was only effective if used by someone else.

The episode ended with Jonathan, or what viewers thought was Jonathan, standing before Mina.

Instead, it was Dracula, who gleefully ripped her lover's face apart to expose his true identity, leaving her horrified.

With perfect comic timing, he said: "Ive been dying to meet you!"

But viewers will need to wait until episode two to discover her fate.

They lauded the first episode on Twitter, with one fan exclaiming: "Absolutely phenomenal! Tongue-in-cheek, irreverent comedy (a la The League),followed by sudden horrific violence!! I can't wait for part 2!! #Dracula@Markgatiss."
