A homeless man who claims hes a real-life vampire ripped off the head of a pigeon and drank its blood while standing in Bryant Parks fountain, police sources said Thursday.

Daniel Ventre is facing animal cruelty charges for killing the pigeon near the Midtown parks water fountain about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and standing shin-deep in water to slurp its blood.

Ventre told horrified onlookers that he was a vampire and needed the birds blood to survive.

Witnesses called 911, but the 32-year-old man had left the sunlit park by the time police arrived, officials said.

Cops caught up with him a short time later after he tried to jump a turnstile at a nearby train station.

We arrested him for criminal trespass, but when we got him back to the house, we realized that he had blood all over him, a police source said.

He then confesses that he killed a pigeon.

Cops returned to the park and found the birds remains.

In addition to charging Ventre with criminal trespass for turnstile jumping, investigators ordered Ventre to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at Mount Sinai St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital. Police continue to investigate likely animal cruelty charges, and Ventres arraignment was pending after the psychiatric review.

Parkgoers took to Twitter to expose the foul act, and reported spotting as many as three slain pigeons in the picturesque park.
