Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley Say They Fought At the End of "The Vampire Diaries" – Seventeen.com

Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley not only love each other like brothers, but they also fight like them too on the set of The Vampire Diaries. Luckily, things are all good between them after a fight broke out on set during the show's seventh and final season that helped decide the fate of their characters.

While appearing on Access Hollywood, the two BFFs revealed that they ended up having a huge discussion over who would die at the end of the series.

"We both wanted to die at the end of the show, we wanted the brothers to go out with a bang together," Paul revealed. "And we were fighting over who would die. And I ended up getting it and you were a little jealous. You have to admit, you were a little jealous."

"Well, here's the deal, define jealous. [What] Paul and I were discussing was ultimately these guys came into town, they destroyed everything. They met Elena, who is this 17-year-old kid, turned into a killer. She burned down her house..." Ian said before Paul added in, "It's a family show."

"It was more poetic for these two brothers to go away and to let these humans sort of resettle back into their town. But, whatever, I lost that battle," Ian continued. "I lost a lot of battles."

Paul previously opened up about Stefan's death while appearing on Watch What Happens Live back in December 2019.

"He did a lot of bad things and I felt like he deserved death," Paul said. "I feel good about it. I honestly think both brothers should've died. I would've liked that we both died and that Elena, the girl at the end of the show, like all her memory was wiped and she went on to live a normal life and forgot that we ever existed. I think that would've been nice."

While they didn't get everything they wanted in that ending, we're definitely glad that things still worked out between Ian and Paul.
