Morbius: 5 Comic Characters Who Need To Show Up In The Movie (& 5 Who Shouldn’t) – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Since the surprise trailer for the upcoming Morbius film dropped, fans have been stewing trying to figure out what the movie will hold and what characters it will bring forward. The Morbius comics are rich with incredible characters, including some of the most popular Marvel heroes we've already seen on the big screen.

There's not too much known about who's supposed to show up in the film, aside from maybe Michael Keaton's Vulture, and that just leaves us with speculation. With all the great options to choose from, let's discuss five characters from the comics we need to see in the film and five we don't.

Basilisk, otherwise known as Wayne Gifford, has served as a great villain for the living vampire for years and there's certainly reason to believe they'd include him in theMorbiusfilm. However, the story of the serial killer Gifford is a very complex one, especially in terms of showing his transformation into the demonic Basilisk. Introducing Basilisk would be a tough task in another character's origin story and simply too difficult to unpack with such limited time. Depending on Morbius' big screen longevity, we could very well see Basilisk later down the line, but he just wouldn't fit into this film.

Michael Morbius' best friend from the comics, Emil Nikos, is extremely likely to appear in the film. Nikos plays a pretty substantial role in Morbius' origin story and would add some complexity to the scene in which the protagonist gains his vampireabilities.

Including Nikos into theMorbiusfilm would be a fairly simple task and would help build the backstory of Michael Morbius before his transformation into the living vampire. Even though there's been no word or confirmation about an appearance from Emil Nikos, you should expect to see him show up.

If Marvel ever plans to introduce the Dracula character in a movie, it most likely won't be this one. There's plenty of potential for the character on the big screen, but it would make more sense to do that in a solo film for Dracula as opposed to introducing him in someone else's movie.

Plus, Dracula originates long before this movie is set to take place and it seems extremely unlikely that they'd have him show up out of nowhere without touching on his complex backstory. However, since Dracula is capable of living through multiple centuries, we could see Morbius take on the world's most powerful vampire at some point in the future.

To be completely frank, it feels bizarre including Blade as a character who needs to show up in theMorbiusfilm considering he's set to get his own reboot film in just a few years. However, his inclusion wouldn't have to even be a significant role. A simple teaser scene or maybe even just a Blade reference would suffice. The clash of Blade and Morbius seems nearly inevitable, regardless of how far fetched it seems to think that might happen as soon as this year. If Blade were to show up in this movie in any capacity, it'd likely be something minuscule used to build hype around his MCU debut.

As Marvel begins its reimagining of some of its beloved vampire characters, they'll have to tread lightly. Characters like Morbius bring a whole new side to Marvel that most casual fans aren't accustomed to through previous films excluding theBladetrilogy.

So, with that in mind, it feels like it would be a tremendous leap to include a character like Jack Russell, the Werewolf by Night. He was a staple character throughout the Morbius comics, but he just doesn't fit whatsoever in this film. As Marvel starts to reintroduce vampires back into their mainstream films, they'll probably hold off for a while on introducing werewolves as well.

Lilith is an incredibly fascinating and complex character in the Marvel Universe. The Mother or Queen of Demons has been one of Morbius' longest-standing villains and would add some insanity to the film. However, it doesn't feel like, with as mystical and outrageous as her power is, that she'll be the main villain in this film.

What Lilith could bring to the table for Morbius is his future films and his potential collaboration with other heroes. Thanks to her forces of chaos, Morbius comes together with Doctor Strange, Blade, and Hannibal King to create the Midnight Sons. Lilith would undoubtedly help set up a big screen Midnight Sons, and just based on the names involved, who wouldn't want to see that?

In 2020, Morbius won't be the only famous Marvel character getting his major break on the big screen. That's right, everyone's favorite serial killer will star in the first full-length film in the form ofVenom 2. It's safe to say that everyone is excited for Carnage, but we'll have to leave him for later.

Carnage and Morbius do have a history together, but they likely won't face off in a film any time soon. Both will need to establish their own big-screen success before they start talking about crossovers. Plus, there's already enough confusion about Morbius' connection to Spider-Man to sort out before we start talking Carnage.

Marine turned assassin Vic Slaughter could actually play a pretty substantial role in theMorbiusfilm. He was initially hired to hunt down Michael Morbius by agent Simon Stroud. Stroud is one of the few confirmed characters for the upcoming film, set to be portrayed by Tyrese Gibson, so the tie to Vic Slaughter is already there. He is eventually bitten by Morbius, transforming him into a vampire as well, overcome and obsessed with the need to take down Morbius. The dynamic between Morbius and Vic Slaughter would play perfectly to open up the film and serve as somewhat of a side plot for the remainder. Slaughter is another character you can be confident might show up inMorbius.

Since Marvel has started playing with the concept of the multiverse, fans have been eager to take a trip to the Dream Dimension. While this sounds like something more suited for Doctor Strange, Morbius has had a fair share of run-ins with the dimension's ruler.

Obviously, however, Nightmare is most likely going to make his debut in a Doctor Strange film or possibly even inWandavision. As great a character as Nightmare is and as entertaining as it would be to see him go toe-to-toe with Morbius, this film just isn't the right time to introduce him. Hopefully, we get to see the two in the same film down the line, but it would be a waste to see Nightmare debut in a film like this as opposed to something with a heavier focus on the multiverse.

If you've seen the trailer forMorbius, you already know that it's laced with Spider-Man easter eggs. Between a shot of the web-slinger painted on a wall and the last-second appearance of Adrian Toomes, it's clear that this movie is gonna be rich with Spider-Man references and, if we're lucky, an appearance from Spider-Man himself.

As much as it feels unrealistic to expect an appearance from Spider-Man in this movie, it's hard to believe they're just going to continually reference him without showing him at all. Now, if Peter Parker does have a role inthe film,it's going to be a very small one. However, if we already know that Spider-Man is capable of crossing over between cinematic universes, he might as well get a head start and bless us with a brief cameo inMorbius.
