The Top 5 Characters From The Vampire Diaries Universe Happy Birthday Julie Plec! – AfterBuzz TV

ABTV Unsung Hero: Julie Plec of Vampire Diaries

Julie Plec is an incredible producer, writer and director. She has filled hearts, lives and homes through her amazing storytelling abilities.

Plec tapped into the vampire saga way before it became mainstream. She had teenagers and young people alike embark on a journey through a city called Mystic Falls where they could live simultaneously in a world with witches, vampires, werewolves and more.

Plecs most known for her CW series The Vampire Diaries and its spin-offs The Originals and Legacies.

I was late to experience Plecs greatness. It wasnt until summer 2017 that I binged watched The Vampire Diaries, and as my biggest guilty pleasure, I can say my life hasnt been the same since.

Shortly after, I fell in love with the chaos in New Orleans where the first tribrid child was born. The Originals had me hooked, too!

Plec couldnt just stop there. After The Originals wrapped in 2018, Plec navigated her way to another successful spin-off where the children of our favorite TVD characters attend a school specifically for the supernatural.

I binge watched Legacies in a day and now, fast forward to fall of 2019, Im on the panel for AfterBuzz TV, discussing season two of the show I love.

Plecs birthday was this week, so to honor and show appreciation for her creations, Ive decided to rank my top five favorite characters from the TVD universe.

*I also recognize the astounding job by the actors who had a strong influence on this list*

TOP 5 THE VAMPIRE DIARIES UNIVERSE CHARACTERS:

#5: ELIJAH MIKAELSON

Elijah was noble and committed to family, as well as chivalrous. He was often a breath of fresh air in the twisted storylines of TVD and the Originals. The second oldest of the original vampires, Elijah always tried to see the best in people while living by his own honor code.

One of my favorite aspects of Elijah was his admiration for human life. He was one of the vampires I often ached for. I believe he deserved a chance at all the ups and downs that come with being human. I was always intrigued by Elijah, because of his hardened exterior, but at the same time his soft, passionate and optimistic interior. This is a nod at the actor who played Elijah, Daniel Gillies, for his exceptional job of showing both sides.

#4: LIZZIE SALTZMAN

If you havent caught up on the latest TVD spin-off, Legacies, you might not recognize this character. However, you should find the last name familiar.

Lizzie Saltzman is one of the twin daughters of Alaric Saltzman and surrogate daughter of Caroline Forbes. Due to the fact that she is a Gemini witch, but born of a vampire her questionable biology often leaves Lizzie in a state of confused internal chaos. That is what makes her so intriguing though. This Saltzman twin has become my favorite character on Legacies for her power, tenacity and witty remarks. Lizzie is not only strong, but she is also hilarious.

I love Lizzie and how well actress Jenny Boyd plays her. I love that she commits to addressing mental disorders. Her character is extremely relatable as she struggles with mood swings, anxiety and image-control issues. However, she handles her mental disorders with beauty and grace.

#3: DAMON SALVATORE

I honestly dont even know where to begin when it comes to Damon Salvatore, and really, Ian Somerholder. Its definitely safe to say Im Team Damon. However it wasnt until the second season of TVD that I fell in love with his character. The emotional rollercoaster that his character takes the audience on is breathtaking.

Every subtle gesture, romantic longing look and decision Damon made was all out of love for those around him even if it conflicted with his vampire instincts. While I was happy that Damon and Elena were end game, it was his relationship with Bonnie Bennett that I was most fond of.

The storyline when the two developed their purest relationship of friendship in the prison world, was one of my favorite storylines of any TVD universe. Throughout the course of the series, they had a very complex relationship that was both intense and tender. Damon always had this ability to make you root for him, and I definitely did. Quite frankly, hes just plain charming, and in the most sinister and compelling way.

#2: BONNIE BENNETT

Speaking of Bonnie Bennett, she comes in at number two of my favorite TVD universe characters. Bonnie was such a powerful female character. She was bold, brave, and strong but also vulnerable and fragile in the best ways.

Bonnie was noble because she was always willing to put others before herself (literally all of the time!) She played the role of confidant and counselor to all of her friends, without ever receiving much thanks in return. To put it simply, Bonnie Bennett was a total girl boss and badass. She stepped up at each and every turn, and was one of if not the only character to be able to place her personal feelings aside to do what was right. We see this time and time again in TVDs season 14 regarding Damon.

I think why I was so fond of Bonnie was because despite all her pain, loss and suffering, she kept going. The most powerful witch of the entire TVD universe remained strong in the face of danger and adversity. Bonnies belief and devotion to her craft, as well as to her family and friends was undeniable.

Bonnie Bennett is goals. Plain and simple.

*Also for anyone thats a Bonnie fan but hasnt seen Legacies yet, Hope Mikaelson (yes, Klaus daughter) has extremely similar characteristics to Bonnie. Check it out!

#1: NIKLAUS MIKAELSON

Yes, my all-time favorite character in the TVD universe goes to THE Niklaus. I was fascinated by Klaus. From his relationship with Caroline to Cami, his soft side to his nasty side, his vindictive side plus everything in between. My devotion for Klaus is so strong because I was able to grow fond of him in TVD, but then really understand him in The Originals.

Klaus is the definition of you cant live with him, cant live without him. It was always exciting to note what sort of emotion Klaus was going to stir up as I watched each episode. And of course, this had a ton to do with the performance that Joseph Morgan did.

Niklaus Mikaelson was the most perfect antihero Ive ever witnessed in a TV show.

The series finale of The Originals, and the last time as of now wed see Klaus, he said something that truly encompassed who he was to the core.

As much as Ive savored the joy of tormenting you through the years, I must confess, you all mean everything to me. Your loyalty and your counsel, and your love, its probably the only reason Ive survived as long as I have. Which is why I know that long after Im gone you will all come together, time and time again to take care of each other; and that is why I am not afraid for your future.

While Klaus was saying that to his family and newborn daughter, Hope, I felt it too. For me, Klaus was saying that to the audience, he was thanking us for the ride. The original hybrid, the tormented soul, the one who desperately sought love and acceptance was everything I couldve hoped for in a character.

So ultimately, thank you Julie Plec and happiest of birthdays to you! Wishing you all the love and joy towards your next year of life. I cannot wait to see what you create and unfold next.
