Vampire Diaries: 10 Times The Main Characters Should Probably Have Gone To Jail – Screen Rant

The characters of The Vampire Diaries caused a lot of death and destruction throughout the series, but what should have caught the police's attention?

Fans of The Vampire Diaries can honestly say that the main characters got away with a lot of things. Most supernatural shows occur under a veil of obscurity and secrecy, tothe point where no one seems to notice what's going on. Even in a small town like Mystic Falls.

The main characters did a lot of damage throughout the eight seasons. From bloody bite victims, kidnappings, murder plots, to even something as simple as destroying property, they made quite a lot of messes. Despite all of it, they got away scot-free. Even the police were on their side, with Sheriff Forbes and later on Matt covering for them. It begs the questionthat if this were real life, whatchoices would have possibly landed these characters behind bars?

This event is small in comparison to all the other things that occur in the show. But it still raises an eyebrow to how no one, not even an adult intervened. In season one, Jeremy gets into a fight with Tyler during a pep rally. It's not uncommon for teenagers to do so.

But after Stefan intervenes, Jeremy picks up a broken bottle to attack Tyler, buthe ends up cutting Stefan instead. Of course, no adult was there to witness, but in most cases, it would have definitely meant Jeremy would have visited the police station and almost certainly would have gotten him expelled from school.

Fans can hardly count how many times the main characters have either broken into the high school or caused some damage to it. In some cases, they are under the cover of school dances, so no one really notices. Other times, they use it as a backdrop for their plans.

Miraculously, there was never a wandering teacher, school employee, or security guard to catch them. There were also never any cameras or locked doors, strangely.

This event involved multiple main characters and a main villain. Klaus is lookingto break the curse that has stopped him from turning into a hybrid. To do so, he needed specific sacrifices. Sadly, Aunt Jenna is one of those sacrifices, along with Jules and Elena (Elena, who is miraculously saved by Uncle John).

Dissecting the event, how did no one from town notice the smoke and light from the ritual fires? Also, itdoesn't seem like anyone really questioned why Jenna and Johnsuddenly disappeared.

Stefan goes off the rails when he becomes under the control of Sybil, and Stefan once again indulges in blood. And, when Stefan reverts to his old killer ways, he can be quite scary and relentless.

He ends up feeding on a young nurse and goes into a bloodlust trance. The scene then cuts to Damon arriving, and the entire hospital hallway is splattered with blood and dead bodies. Assuming no one is around and that cameras don't work, Stefan gets away but in reality, that would be impossible to believe.

Aaron was anew supporting character in season five of the show. To be fair, Damon has done a lot of killings in his time that have gone undiscovered and never trace back to him. But, it was a head-scratcher that Damon didn't get caught or jailed for killing Aaron.

To start, he and Enzo fake a car accident to get Aaron to stop his car. Damon proceeds to feed on him. At the beginning of thenext episode, Stefan findsthe outside of Damon's trunk covered in blood, and then discovers Aaron's body inside. It's perplexing to think that no one in the townspotted the blood before Stefan did.

When out of options, the best thing to do is create a little chaos and destruction. This was Klaus' (in Tyler's body) plan for helping rescue Caroline from the council. The entire scene could have come straight from an action movie. Seeing as Mystic Falls is so rural and no one's ever around, Klaus gets away with it.

The car crash causes many overturned cars, car fires, and a huge wreck. Seeing as this is a fictional show, Klaus and Caroline get away with no worries about authority. One can guess that under normal circumstances, there would be surveillance andKlauswould go to jail.

In season six, Elena is on a bender, constantly feeding on people now that she's a vampire. Damon allows it while also trying to teach her how to control it so the victim doesn't die. Sadly, Elena gets distracted and the victim runs off. The scenario would have definitely led her or one of the characters to go to jail.

The victim manages to run into the town square where a group of training officers are running by along with Matt. She's bloody, holding her neck, and catches the attention of everyone. The volunteer of the community program knows something's up and wants the story. But Matt and Sheriff Forbes defuse suspicion and keep her quiet. This wouldn't be the case in reality and Matt would have definitely been taken in for questioning.

Many fans can agree that Kai was one of the show's absolute worst villains. He was manipulative, conniving, and hell-bent on revenge and power. In season six, Alaric's hopeful future as a married man with Jo comes crumbling down. Kai stabbed Jo in the stomach andat the beginning of the following episode, the venue is destroyed.

It's clear that many guests were also civilians. There're bodies everywhere. And yet no one gets arrested for it. At the heart of it were the main characters and Kai. Afterward, audiences have no clue what happens to the deceased and injured or if anyone questionswho did it. The main characters would have gone tojail or at least questioned.

The amount of things that Elena and the characters get away with is astounding, to say the least. One of the biggest and perplexing ones is when she burns her house down after shutting off her humanity. She can't cope with the death of Jeremy, much less live in a house where there were once happy memories of her parents and Jenna.

Elena needs to clear herself of it and decides to burn it down to the ground. The best part is that no authorities wonder why or how it happened or just take Elena's word for it. Nor do they put two and two together that everyone has died and now her house is gone.

This event was for the greater good. Damon and Elena needed to kill the Travelers to bring their loved ones back. To do so they needed to rig anexplosioninside the dinner. The best option was to drive Damon's car into Mystic Grill. Not only is it huge destruction of property along with an explosion, but many deaths.

Audiences see that the Grill is full of Travelers. But in true supernatural show fashion, there're no police or authorities. The event is never really questioned or the possible array of charred bodies. In real life, there would have been CCTV cameras or a witness that would have implicated both of them.
