The fantasy-drama series debuted to little fanfare in March 1997, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer slowly and surely attracted fans to its intelligent writing and relatable characters. Its high school is hell metaphor helped dissect life for teens and adults alike, meaningfully exploring anxieties throughout its seven-season run.

In an Instagram post, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the monster-slaying teenager, wrote: As an actor, you wish for that one role where you can leave your mark and forever be remembered. With Buffy, I got so much moreShes a feminist challenge to gender hierarchy.

Gellar, whos more active as an entrepreneur and cookbook author these days, thanked devoted fans, ex-cast mates and the shows creator Joss Whedon.

Former costars Alyson Hannigan and David Boreanaz continued successful television careers with How I Met Your Mother and Bones, respectively. Whedon directed two Avengers blockbusters. The shows mythology continued in the comic-book series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight.

Colton Haynes says yes to florist beau

Openly gay actor Colton Haynes said yes to florist boyfriend Jeff Leatham, the former Teen Wolf and Arrow cast member announced on Instagram recently. Haynes uploaded a picture of them kissing before a fireworks display at a Mexican beach, after Leatham popped the question.

I said yes! @jeffleatham, said Haynes, 28, in the caption. His fianc, 46, shared the photograph and captioned, He said yes!

Leatham was able to get actress-pop artist Cher to record a video greeting for the proposal. So, I got you, babe, she partially sang. This is for you

This is gonna be the best thing ever. Youve got to call me and tell me how it worked out, said Cher in the 20-second clip shared by Leatham.

Gifted actors for X-Men spinoff

The planned X-Men TV spinoff tentatively titled Gifted now includes in its cast Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Amy Acker (Angel), Emma Dumont (Pretty Little Liars), Sean Teale (Reign) and Jamie Chung (Gotham).
