Vampires, Hip-Hop Come Together In HBO’s ‘Thirst’ – Horror News Network

Two genres not usually linked in the same sentencevampire horror and hip-hop musicwill form the basis for a new HBO thriller.

The new showcalled, appropriately enough,Thirstdoes not have a debut date at this time, but HBO is working with Macro Television Studios to bring it to the small screen, as reported by Variety.

Thirstdescribed as a hip-hop vampire dramawill be written by Leah Benavides Rodriguez and Carlito Rodriguez, the team that brought the hip-hop dramaEmpireto Fox.

The supernatural showbased on an original idea from former VH1 creative director Kevin Jordanfollows a brilliant, but cocky, Atlanta rapper who thinks hes found his way to stardom when he links up with hip-hops hottest group, but has no idea that theyre hiding a terrifying secret: They are a family of vampires with roots going back centuries, according to the official synopsis.

Thirst, as explained, will blend a verdant journey through the world of music with a sweeping, new vampire mythology. The show explores the price of fame and legacy in America and asks the eternal questionwho would you become if you could live forever?

The Rodriquez teamwho also will act as showrunnerssaid in a statement that music has been integral to both our lives, andThirstis the perfect opportunity to blend genres, they remarked. Were excited to bring it to life with Macro Television Studios and thrilled it has found its home at HBO.

Kevin Jordan, Malcolm Spellman, Nichelle Tramble Spellman, Ben Watkins, Charles D. King and Marta Fernandez all will serve as executive producers for the series.
