What We Do In The Shadows boss lifts lid on cliffhanger finale and teases celebrity cameos in season 3 – The Irish Sun

WHAT We Do In The Shadows' second season has only just dropped in the UK, but its third season is already shaping up to be massive.

The vampire comedy series just finished airing the second season in the US and ended with Guillermo fulfilling his destiny as a vampire hunter.

The episode sees main vampires Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nandor (Kayvan Novak), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) invited to the very prestigious and exclusive Thtre des Vampires.

Too stupid to realise it's trap by the Vampiric Council to execute them, Nandor's familiar has to come to their rescue despite falling out with his master.

The head of the Vampiric Council, Vladislav, is played by Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) who also created the series alongside Thor director Taika Waititi, after their 2014 film of the same name became a worldwide smash.

Jemaine, 46, dished the dirt about what fans could expect from the next season, including Guillermo's fate and celebrity cameos.

He told EW: "The writers will have to figure that one out because I won't be in the writers' room next season. I'm leaving them with this big problem to work out.

"I think it's a good idea to end on a big cliffhanger, we did the same thing last season. Now they can figure out how to get out of this big mess."

Jemaine had hoped to get Antonio Banderas to star in the season two finale after he starred in the 1995 film, Interview With The Vampire.

He revealed: "That was the hope, that Antonio Banderas would come for that episode. That's been our dream to have him on the show from the start. He's Guillermo's hero!

"That really would've been an incredible episode if we could've had him turn up. We'll keep trying."

Jemaine also revealed he was not supposed to appear at all this season and only realised the day before shooting that he'd have to step up.

The dad-of-one revealed: "We were hoping we'd get someone who has played a vampire before, like in 'The Trial' last season with the vampire council, but we didn't have enough time.

"So I happened to be in Toronto, where we shoot the show, so I put my wig on again, but it wasn't planned."

The show has bagged some pretty huge cameos including Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, and Hayley Joel Osment.

The first season featured Tilda Swinton, Wesley Snipes and Evan Rachel Wood among others on the Vampiric Council.

Jemaine admitted it would be "great" to have Hugh Jackman on the show and he could play a vampire killer alongside Guillermo.

He also teased Flight of the Conchords favourite Rhys Darby might make an appearance on the show after starring as a werewolf in the original film.

Jemaine said: "For the record, I always want to work with Rhys. He's another one of the funniest people in the world."
