23 years ago Buff the Vampire Slayer premiered on our screens where we saw Buffy and the Scooby Gang's try to save the world from vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness.

High school cheerleader Buffy wants to live a normal life but must embrace her responsibilities as the vampire slayer in Sunnydale. The seven-part series created a magnitude of popularity turning into scholarly books and articles.

Beyond the series it launches long-lasting careers for many of its main stars with some facing surprising adventures along the way, with their names in the spotlight recently after alleged mistreatment on set.

So, what did the Buffy cast do after leaving Sunnydale High School.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, 43, played lead character of Buffy earning up to $350,000 per episode at the age of 20.

She was nominated and won numerous awards including Choice TV Actress for her role as Buffy.

After retiring from the role after 144 episodes she went on to star in the Grudge films, Ringer and The Crazy Ones alongside the late Robin Williams.

Sarah is also well-known for her role as iconic character Daphne in the Scooby-Doo films.

In 2017 she released a book called Stirring Up Fun With Food sharing her passion for cooking, and co-founded Foodstirs which is aimed at helping families bond in the kitchen.

The star, and mum-of-two, is now popular on Instagram and shared her love of fitness, fashion, and charity work.

Forget Sabrina, Willow was the witch that every teenage wanted to be.

Alyson's acting career continued to work its magic after her days as Willow. She went on to star in the much-loved American Pie movies, and of course is best-known for her role as Lily in sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

In 2003, she married her former co-star Alexis Denisof, who played Wesley Wyndam-Pryce.

The theatrical duo now have two daughters named Satyana, and Keeva.

Alyson, 46, has most recently conducted voice over work for Disney Junior animated series Fancy Nancy.

Nicholas Brendon, 49, played Buffy's best friend Xander who was the founding member of the Scooby Gang.

Beyond Buffy, Brendon has appeared in Criminal Minds, Coherence, and Big Gay Love.

Despite his success as an actor, he has since attracted public attention for being arrested multiple times.

In September 2015, he was arrested after an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend and was charged with third-degree robbery, two counts of criminal mischief, and one count of obstruction of breathing.

He's also been arrested on a charge of public intoxication.

Brendon has spent time in rehab and admitted to a relapse in 2016.

In 2018, the star got back into acting appearing in Netflix's Dark Web.

Despite his bid to change his lifestyle, the following year he was arrested for getting in an argument with his girlfriend and allegedly attacking her.

In February 2020, he was sentenced to three years probation, 20 hours of community service, and required to complete a domestic violence programme for a year.

After Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended, Carpenter appeared in several smaller roles including Veronica Mars, The Expendables, The Expendables 2, Greek and The Lying Game.

The 50-year-old actress has also starred in popular show Lucifer and Netflix's Sons of Anarchy

Carpenter became the host of an investigation discovering series called Surviving Evil which aimed to showcase inspiring women who fought back against their attackers.

The Expendables star made headlines by appearing in risqu Fifty Shades of Grey-esque flick, Bound, and played Ariana Grandes mother in Ryan Murphys Scream Queens.

She has recently hit the headlines after accusing writer Joss Whedon of calling her fat while she was pregnant and making "ongoing, passive-aggressive threats" to fire her during her time on the show.

David Boreanaz, 51, played Buffy's vampire boyfriend who broke hearts when he left the show to star in his own spin-off show.

The actor went on to play Agent Seeley Booth on Bones for more than a decade and is almost equally well known for both roles at this stage.

Boreanaz starred as a love interest in singer Dido's music video for White Flag, which has been viewed almost 18 million times.

He has also starred in drama series Bones, and played Master Cheif Special Warfare Operator in military drama series SEAL Team.

Fans are often suprised when they find out that the actor isn't actually British.

Aside from his roles in Buffy and Angel, Marsters, 58, has also starred in Torchwood, Smallville, Caprica, and Witches of East End.

He also starred in a comedy show called Vidiots, and his latest role as Victor Stein on Runaways means he's now part of the Marvel family.

Masters took to Twitter to share that he is 'heartbroken' over the allegations against Joss Whedon.

From guest spots to prolific voice work, Green's resume is jam-packed.

Most notably, you can hear Seth, 47, as Chris on Family Guy" and Seth MacFarlane's other animated shows.

Green also co-created five-time Emmy award winning comedy series Robot Chicken, in which he voices dozens of characters.

Most recently, Green starred in Broad City, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and provided the voice for King Kong in The LEGO Batman Movie.

Following her role as Anya, the 1100 year old vengeance demon, Caulfield went on to star in Life Unexpected and Fantasy Hospital.

In 2017, she wrote a eulogy to her character for Entertainment Weekly. She said :"Anya was ahead of her time, not only as a soul, but also as a style icon."

The actress has also starred in Beverly Hill, 90210, Darkness Falls, and Timer.

Her most recent role is in miniseries WandaVision. She has a five-year-old daughter with actor husband Mark Leslie Ford.

After playing Buffy's sister, Trachtenberg, 35, continued to act and landed the lead role in Disney's Ice Princess.

She also booked roles on Weeds, Mercy, and Gossip Girl.

Trachtenberg lived every girls dream by being on set with Zac Efron playing his daughter in 17 Again.

She also landed guest-starring roles on NCIS: Los Angeles, Sleepy Hollow and Criminal Minds.

The actress recently released a statement on Instagram following the allegations of Joss Whedon's behaviour on set of Buffy.

She said: "While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy, I don't want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon.

"I am more focused on raising my family and surviving a pandemic currently, so I will not be making any further comments at this time."
