Few can deny the quality of the characters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Joss Whedon created an impressive number of offbeat personalities and kept viewers hooked with a series of fascinating character arcs.

Condensing so many great characters into a single top ten list is a challenge. Whilst there are a couple of obvious choices, there are so many amazing characters from this show it seems harsh to narrow it down to just ten. And though the high-school era is probably the most beloved amongst Buffy fans, the show continued to introduce outstanding characters throughout its run.

In every season, the core cast grapple with love, loss, tragedy, and conflict. They are forced to adapt and evolve in response to the life-changing situations which are thrust upon them. And the show likes to play with the concept of heroes and villains as well. Indeed, there are a number of characters who change from one to the other and back again.

Even those who are put off by the odd tone of the show cant deny how great the characters are. If the upcoming reboot wants to succeed, the new writers need to spend a lot of time analysing and understanding the brilliance of these original characters...
