There were some really weird shows in the 2000's that would not fly nowadays and seem like a relic of a forgotten era. Today we will be reminiscing about some classic anime from the 2000's that would fly in today's world. These classics may have been good in their time, but not every anime ages like a fine wine.

One of the relics of the late 2000's were vampires and supernatural shows. The trend hit its high when Twilight premiered in 2008 and made every teenage girl fall in love with vampires. Weirdly enoughVampire Knight came out the same year as twilight and has many of the troupes and cliches that infest these types of stories. Ineffective heroine, cute boys, and romance, Vampire Knight had it all. The show had its charm for sure and it was more ambitious than some of its competitors, the minute it came out it was dated. Nobody likes vampires anymore, unless their being killed in mass droves. Vampire Knight just doesn't have the same bite as when it came out and it never will.

The 2000's had alot of expirimental anime with high concepts, and Ergo Proxy was no different. Ergo Proxy premiered in 2006 and was about a future earth that is uninhabitable to most humans and robots are used to scout the land. After a disease makes the robots become self-aware, plenty of complex moral and metaphysical issues are presented and faced in a artistic manner. Avid fans of this show would praise the unique presentation and interesting concept, but many parts of the show would not work nowadays. Hard Science Fiction is not popular as it once was and the vague presentation would drive many modern anime fans up the wall. Not to mention the main character would not be as accepted in our modern society.

FLCL,also known a Fooly Cooly was one of the most influential anime of its time. Inspiring western animation to adopt the best aspects of anime, looking at you Teen Titans (2003). FLCL premiered as an original OVA on April 26, 2000 and ended on March 16, 2001.

Brought to life through the prolific anime studio, Gainax, FLCLwas all about playing with the conventions of manga and anime and has an absurd sense of humor. Considering FLCL was rebooted twice, with little to no fanfare, it is apparent that this type of show just isn't meant for our time. This weird tale of adolescence is still good, but it lacks impact in the modern day.

Harem anime was king during the early 2000's and infested almost every kind of genre known to anime. Love Hina was genre defining, premiering on April 19, 2000 and ending on September 27, 2000, Love Hina was the harem everyone watched at the time.Love Hinahas all the tropes that we all cringe at, ineffective main character, fanservice, tsundere, little sisters, and ganguro? most of characters do not translate to modern anime standards and can appear as offensive to some.Love Hinais exactly why most modern harems are not very successful and why most harems are found in Isekai anime.

If you were an anime character in 2000's you would either be in a convoluted harem or you would be attending a magical school. Soul Eater premiered on September 7, 2008 and concluded on March 30, 2009. Soul Eater is a battle shonen where Lord Death runs a magical school, called the Death Weapon Meister Academy, to raise Death Scythes to fight evil souls. Soul Eater is renowned for its well animated fight scenes and its compelling characters, but some parts have not aged well. The reliance on fan service is not wanted, as shown by the fan reaction to Fire Force. Also, the anime original ending would age even worse than it did when the anime was first released.

Coming at the latter end of the 2000's,High School of the Deadwas popular anime that defined the trends and tropes of its contemporaries.High School of the Deadbegan airing on July 5, 2010 and finished on September 20, 2010, and was filled with sex and gore. Considering the rising popularity of zombies in the popular zeitgeist, this anime came out at just the right time. It had zombie killing action and a compelling directorial style that made it stand it. If this anime came out nowadays, the focus on sexuality and fan service would drive modern fans mad. Not to mention that zombies have become an outdated trend and are largely ignored.

In the vast oceans of harem comedies,To Love Ruis very indicative of harems in the 2000's and would set many of trends that they would use during this decade. To Love Rubegan airing on April 4, 2008 and finished airing on September 26, 2008. The popular choice for outlandish harem comedies were aliens, but in the 2000's there was shift to demon and angel harems, look at High School DxD for example. The sex in this show was completely out of control and made many people in anime community consider if this was more than just a normal harem. Nowadays, most harems like to maintain a wholesome presentation that leaves more to the imagination.

There was this period in the 2000's where every studio was trying to make their artsy show, to appeal to people who find style to be more important than the substance. Elfen Lied started airing on July 25, 2004 and finished airing on October 17, 2004. The main selling points of this anime was its initial stylish presentation and the morbid violence that would make the most rebellious of teenager, cringe at the violence. Looking back, Elfen Lieddid have an interesting premise with a secret government experiment escaping and the two college students who must help her. The main problem with the show is the reliance on gore and provocative imagery that just isn't acceptable in our day and age.

Heavens Lost Propertyhas one of the most absurd concepts of any harem anime, angel girls and slavery.Heavens Lost Propertypremiered on October 5, 2009 and finished on December 28, 2009, and had a total of two seasons. The series followedTomoki Sakurai when he met Ikaros, an angeloid, who becomes his servant. The show has plenty of hijinx, action, and a whole lot of fan service. Besides the fact that most of the female characters are slaves the main character, the show is just filled to the brim with panty shots. If you hate fan service and lackluster characters, this anime is not for you.

A common theme throughout this entire list is that fanservice is aspect of anime that aren't recieved as well in our current society. Bakemonogataripremiered on July 3, 2009 and finished on June 25, 2010, and was the first entry in the respected monogatari franchise. Even though the monogatari series is still going strong to this day, the first entry in the series has not aged as well as many fans would have liked. The main protagonist is creepy and perverted and the unnecessary amount of fan service makesBakemonogatarihard to rewatch. Even the most dedicated of fans will agree that this anime does not fly in the current day.
