10 Shows To Watch If You Love The Originals | ScreenRant – Screen Rant

From the original Vampire Diaries to Wynonna Earp, make sure to check out these similar shows if you love The Originals.

When The Originals hit The CW in 2013, it quickly proved to be as successful as its predecessor, The Vampire Diaries. The Originals might not have been as good in some areasbut surpassed its parent series in many other areas, bringing the action to New Orleans and making it more about family and mature subject matter and less about romance and angst.

What fans loved about The Originals was the family bond storylines, less teen angst cliches in its storylines, powerful and interesting characters, all painted in shades of grey, and of course, the New Orleans setting, giving it a unique and cool feel all of its own.

For fans who love The Originals but have yet to check out the series that led into it, there is a lot to love about The Vampire Diaries.

The original show is indeed a little more about teen angst, and it plays heavily into the romantic relationships that feel a little too much like Twilight at times, but there are some great monsters, strong female leads, and a fast pace that never bores. It was easy to pre-judge The Vampire Diaries when it first came out, but it deserves a second look.

The 100 is science fiction compared to the fantasy of The Originals, but there is a lot to love about both shows. In The 100, Earth has been decimated, and the survivors live on a space habitat orbiting the planet.

Three generations have grown up on the habitat, and soon the government decides it is time to see if Earth is habitable again. They send done 100 teenage criminal delinquents, and the series then follows the kids on Earth, as they realize there are more survivors down there and the government in space, who they know they can't trust.

There are two options if you want to watch Charmed. Those who love the family dynamic of The Originals should find plenty to love with both versions of this story about the Halliwell sisters, three witches with immense powers.

There ended up being a fourth sister when one died, and later there was even an apprentice witch in Kaley Cuoco. Charmed was remade and is currently airing on The CW with a more diverse cast.

When it comes to a group of people working together in a world surrounded by the supernatural, there isn't a better series to watch than Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If it weren't for Buffy, there would not be the onslaught of urban fantasy TV that includes shows like The Originals.

Buffy starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as a girl who learns she is The Chosen One, and she has to defend the Earth from evil, mostly demons, and vampires. She teams with her friends in the Scooby Gang and sets out to save the world.

Premiering in 2014, Salem was a series on WGN America based on the real Salem witch trials in the 17th century. The series was a dark one with Janet Montgomery starring as Mary, a witch who creates hysteria in Salem and controls the witch trials.

Her goal is to summon the devil. However, when her former boyfriend (Shane West) returns to town, things get complicated. Salem lasted three seasons with 36 total episodes.

Supernatural just ended in 2020, and it ended up as the longest-lasting show in The CW history. Fans of The Originals would have loved to see that series last as long as the Winchester brothers' journey.

Supernatural has the boys hunting down demons and monsters of every sort. The overall storyline is a war brewing concerning Heaven and Hell, where neither really cared aboutEarth. That is what the brothers are there to protect.

Van Helsing takes a fresh look at the vampire mythos, with an ancestor of Abraham Van Helsing leading the war against vampires. This takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where the vampires have become the dominant force on Earth, ruling over humans.

Vanessa Van Helsing wakes up from a coma to find the world pretty much overrun by vampires andhas a unique blood composition that can turn a vampire back into a human, therefore being humanity's last hope for survival.

There isn't a closer TV series to The Originals than True Bloodfor fans who love the New Orleans setting and vampire romance.

Based on the Charlaine Harris book series, True Blood takes place in a world that knows vampires are real, but they are not a danger and actually buy bottled blood to stay alive without killing humans. However, with this comes a hierarchy and a vampire government that makes this series stand out.

Wynonna Earp is similar to Van Helsing in that it is a story about a female descendent of a legendary character who fought evil.

In this case, she is Wyatt Earp's great-great-grandaughter, and instead of fighting vampires, she is in a war with revenants of legendary Wild West outlaws Wyatt Earp killed, returning to life to terrorize the world. Wynonna has a special gun that will send the revenants back to Hell.

Netflix brought the slightly cheesy Sabrina the Teenage Witch back to life with a very dark look at the character in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Based on the comic book of the same name, Sabrina and her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, return to the small screen but in a story with Satanists, hidden cults, demons from Hell, and so much more terrorizing the teenage witch. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actually takesher straight to Hell, so this is a better pick for fans of The Originals than fans of the original Sabrina.
