Anne Rice Shopping "The Vampire Chronicles" Rights in Massive TV and Film Deal – Bloody Disgusting

Author Anne Rice is making a huge play with her forthcoming The Vampire Chronicles as Variety reports that the series is no longer in the works at Hulu.

According to their sources, Rice and her team are once again shopping her intellectual property but this time as a much larger TV package, and as a complete buyout of the TV/film rights.

The new package being shopped includes both The Vampire Chronicles and also Rices Mayfair Witches, which is currently set up at Warner Bros. The asking price is said to be around $30 to $40 million, in addition to a $2.5 million buyout of Warner Bros. rights. In exchange for the huge upfront fee, however, the new owner will hold the rights in perpetuity, and not just as an option.

Paramount was said to be among four or so bidders for the new package.

The Vampire Chronicles series follows vampire Lestat de Lioncourt who serves as hero, antihero, and narrator. The Mayfair Witches is about a family of witches, which began in 1990 with the novel The Witching Hour.

Last we had heard, the first season of the series Rice hoped to make would focus onThe Vampire Lestat, the second book in her series: Set in 18th century France, the story is told from the point of view of Lestat de Lioncourt, a young man desperate to break free from his life and become an actor in Paris. Of course, he ends up being turned into a vampire by Magnus.

I want to begin right there and follow the adventures of Lestat through the Chronicles, Rice noted previously.

She had also noted, A television series of the highest quality is now my dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and the entire tribe. In this the new Golden Age of television, such a series is THE way to let the entire story of the vampires unfold.

Its going to be exciting to see where all of her stories end up and how theyre eventually adapted into both film and TV. Stay tuned for more.
