Batgirl & Supergirl: How the World’s Finest Team Handled Gotham’s (Vampire) Bat Problem – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Looking for a quiet night in, an accident in a lab turns the World's Finest super gals into monster killing machines!

From the first time Superman and Batman met and worked togetherin Superman #76, byEdmond Hamia bond was forged between DC's twin icons that has lasted through the generations. Over the years, many superheroes would get together both intentionally and on accident to help take down a common enemy. In 2010's Batgirl #14, byBryan Q. Miller,Lee Garbett,Pere Prez,Jonathan Glapion,Rodney Ramos and Guy Major, what started off as a fun night out ended up with Stephanie Brown's Batgirl and Kara Zor-El's Supergirl fighting off an army of Draculas.

After a particularly trying case, #the tone of this issue is more playful as Stephanie is stuck on a Saturday night playing board games with her mom. Kara flies into townand decides to hang out with Stephanie since they are both having slow nights in their respective cities.

As they kick around Gotham University trying to find something fun to do, they decide to see an old vampire movie. The general audience finds the acting and writing of the film on the cheesy side and are laughing, but Kara and Stephanie, who knows all too well about being lonely, find it depressing. As Dracula says, "Doomed! I am doomed ... alone," the girls find themselves getting more and more depressed.

Not far away in the "Requisite Super-Collider Lab," an explosion occurs during an experiment and releases "hard light." Even though theexplosion lasts only a second, the movie theater takes the brunt of it,"and since film runs at twenty-four frames per second," the scientist from the super-collider explains, "you've got twenty-four Draculas." It looks like Batgirl and Supergirl nave the rest of their night planned!

The scientist from the super-collider gives Kara and Stephanie some "control rods" that will "destabilize the Draculas' photon matrices." In order words, they need to drive stakes into the hearts of twenty-four different Draculas. I bet they didn't see their night taking this turn.

The Draculas running around the campus are dressed similarly like the traditional Bela Lugosi Dracula. The creatures appear in black and white and keepmentioning how they are "doomed to be alone" for eternity. The Draculas are trying to bite people on the necks, but the horror aspects are underplayed in this issue. More interesting, though, is that the blood-suckers are able to overpowerSupergirl. During their first confrontation, Dracula grabs Supergirl and easily pins her to the ground before Batgirl swoops in and saves her. Supergirl explains that other than Kryptonite, there are "all kinds of little hiccups" that can affect her powers. She points out that magic, electricity, and really big robots can mess with her powers.
