Buffy The Vampire Slayer never shied away from weirdness, but these episodes are so strange that they still stand out.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran for 7 seasons and produced 145 episodes. As a result of this, some of the episodes are great, others are bad, and some are just straight-up weird. A series about a teenage girl fighting against the supernatural forces of darkness is already going to have a certain level of strangenessin every episode, but some stand head and shoulder above the rest as just straight-up bizarre.

That's not to say weird is bad, and many of the more out-there episodes twist the formula of the show on its head, with unexpected and entertaining results. With this in mind here are the 10 weirdest episodes the series produced.

Featured in season 4, "Superstar" shakes up the status quo when inexplicably the supporting character Jonathan becomes a hero everyone can rely on. This is a radical transformation from the usual nerdy Jonathan that everyone has come to know.

The concept even extends to the shows opening credits, which sees Jonathan take center stage as the bad-ass star of the show. It is revealed that Jonathan has used magic to make everyone adore him, and once the spell is broken everything returns to normal.

"Hush" is without a doubt one of the greatest episodes the series produced, but that's not to say that it isn't also one of the weirdest. The episodes see the residents of Sunnydale rendered mute as the terrifying demons simply know as The Gentlemen pick them off one by one. Tearing out their hearts while their victims silently scream.

These restrictions give the episode a completely different feel and produces some of the show'sfunniest and most terrifying moments.

Featured in season 1 "Nightmares" has a pretty simple concept, and sees the gang's darkest nightmares become a reality. This proves to be one of the hardest challenges they have faced, as every one of them is confronted with something truly terrifying.

For Giles, he is brought to Buffy's grave, while Xander is chased down by a crazy clown. The dram-like reality they find themselves in makes the episode one of the weirdest the show has produced.

By season 2 the gang had faced many enemies, and everyone knew their role in the group. But "Halloween" saw to change things up completely and transformed Buffy into a helpless damsel in distress, and Xander into a brave soldier.

This was the result of a dark spell that transformed everyone into their Halloween costumes. The weird new world the group found themselves in allowed Xander to shine in one of his best episodes in the series.

"Once More With Feeling" is arguably the greatest episode in the series and transforms the show into a musical,with the residents of Sunnydale bursting into song. This was due to the influence of the dapper demon Sweet, who made everyone sing and dance until the burst into flames.

The fantastic musical numbers featured throughout the episode allows everyone to express how they really feel and lead to Buffy revealing a shocking revelation.

Season 4's "A New Man" sees Giles transformed into a demon, due to the influence of his old enemy Ethan Rain. Trapped in his new form and speaking in a demonic language the only person he can turn to for help is Spike.

The odd couple set to work to reverse Giles' condition before the change becomes permanent. The Giles focused episode changes things up considerably and proves to be one of the funniest the series produced.

"Where the Wild Things Are" remains one of the strangest episodes the series produced. The season 4 episode sees Buffy and boyfriend Riley attend a party at a frat house, but a mystical influence compels them to get it on.

The energy they produce only serves to give the dark forces in the house more power and puts everyone's lives at risk. It's a strange concept for an episode and marks a change from the typical demonic villains that the gang faces.

Season 6's "Tabula Rasa" sees the gang lose their memory, completely forgetting who they are. This then leads to them spending the episode trying to piece together who they are and what is going on.

This causes everyone to act completely differently and changes everyone's relationships. The status quo is thrown out of the widow in this episode, resulting in one of the most unique and strangest situations the group has ever found themselves in.

With so many great episodes, some inevitably fail to match up, season 4 "Beer Bad" is one such episode. The episode sees Buffy transformed into a cavewoman due to the influence of chemically altered beer.

While delivering some laughs the episode falls short of expectations. "Beer Bad" stands out as one of the goofiest episodes in the series, and its strange concept proves too weird for even the most avid fans to enjoy.

"Restless" marks the finale of season 4, and with the big-bad of the season already defeated, this finale was decidedly different. The episode sees Buffy and friends transported into their dreams, where they are confronted by some of the strangest and most surreal things they have encountered.

Every member of the group is hunted by a mysterious figure who tries to kill them one by one. It is later revealed that this mysterious figure is the first Slayer. The episode cryptically foreshadows events to come and is jam-packed with information for eagle-eyed viewers.
