Comic Book Vampires That Could Appear in the DCEU | CBR – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Vampires. Those perennial bloodsuckers have entertained and fascinated us for centuries. From various television series, novels, and films, vampires have dominated pop culture for decades. And it seems doubtful that'll stop anytime soon, especially with Sony's forthcomingMorbius film starring Jared Leto.

With Morbius the Living Vampire set to take the spotlight, it makes us wonder what other comic book vampires could invade the big screen. Or more specifically, which vampires from DC Comics could we potentially see make the leap to the big screen in the DC Extended Universe. While there are plenty to pick from, we take a look at the six best options, including a relatively new vampire with a past drinking problem and anEarth-43 Batman.

First appearing in Wonder Twins #2 Drunkula, Baron Nightblood, is the newest vampire in the DC Comics Universe. A member of the lesser Legion of Annoyance, he is a recovering alcoholic, getting his alcohol from his victims intoxicated blood. All he wants is to be taken seriously as a person, not just a vampire. Captured by Zan and Jayna, he is put in a cell with a bunch of inebriated hockey fans, and his thirty days of sobriety are gone in a horrific moment.

While a one-joke character in the comic, his tragic-comic life could make for a unique and quirky film.

Coming from a long line of vampires in Markovia, Nina Skorzeny sees her family slaughtered by the religious order, Graveyard Shift. The order rounded up all the vampires in the nation and placed them in concentration camps before systemically exterminating them. Nina escaped the zealots and fled to America. She was left with deep hatred and distrust of humans, refusing to even feed off them.

In the seeming safety of America, she is captured by the government agency R-Complex. Subjected to experimentation and torture, she and her fellow prisoners are rescued by Arnold Burnsteel and Fate. Burnsteel suggests that they form a band, Scare Tactics, to avoid detection as they keep R-Complex off their trail.

Despite the odd choice of hiding in a very public venue, Scream Queen and her monster bandmates are an interesting concept for a new movie.

La Sangre was introduced and appeared briefly in Superman #689 fighting alongside Mon-El, but then had a more pivotal role in The Shade mini-series. The hero of Barcelona, she uses her vampiric affliction to protect the innocent. As a child, in 1854, the ship she was on with her parents was attacked by pirate vampires. She was bitten, but The Shade, another passenger onboard the ship, saved her from being killed. Using his powers, he withdrew most of the vampiric poison. This left her with a weakened form of vampirism.

La Sangre stopped aging at fifteen. Imagine a teenaged Blade, or vampire Buffy, on the big screen. The damsel doesnt fall for a vampire, she IS a vampire. Thats the makings of a good movie.

In an alternate universe, Earth-43 to be exact, Batman took on the curse of vampirism to fight the nearly invincible Dracula. He won the day only to fall deeper into the curse until finally becoming a full-on vampire. The curse spread, infecting the other heroes, turning the once-great Justice League into the now feared Blood League. They stalked the streets preying on the people they once pledged to protect.

A Justice League movie where the heroes fight vampiric versions of themselves? It could be great, or it could be terrible.

Looker, Emily Briggs, was self-conscious of her appearance, having believed she was too plain. That all changed, though, after being kidnapped and taken to the underground realm of Abyssia. There she was told she was next in line for the throne. Just after absorbing this shocking revelation, she was told that once exposed to the rays from Halleys Comet she would transform. Bathing in the rays, she gained incredible psionic powers and incredible beauty turning into quite the, ahem, looker.

After a while, she ended up on Batmans team, The Outsiders. It was during her tenure with them that she was turned into a vampire by Roderick, the leader of a vampire invasion. Under his sway, she turned on her teammates until his spell was broken.

A superhero vampire without the darkness and despair of Earth-43, Looker could flip the vampire trope on its head.

The rebel vampire. Andrew Bennett was a lord in Queen Elizabeth Is court. He was about to set off on a journey when his lover, Mary Seward, begged him not to go. He ignored her warning and left only to be attacked and killed by a vampire. Rising from the dead, he was unaffected by the urges of his fellow vamps. He refuses to infect others except for his love, Mary, who begs him to let her join him. A mistake. She fully embraces the dark blood lust and ultimately becomes his greatest enemy.

A pure vampire tale with no superhero trappings may be the safest bet for a movie, and Andrew makes for a compelling hero.

While impressive, this meager list doesn't even include the Vertigo series American Vampire and Bite Club, both of which would make better television series. However, it does show that DC Comics has a stable of vampires that could make for compelling movies. And it's time they get their due on the big screen.
